Warning to Friends

Calm, cool and collected - or just a very poor self image?
The Much Honored Bock McMillan, laird of Southern Charm and prince of Cascade Falls, has - finally - started building again.

His head is buzzing with exceptional ideas on fashion accessories, candle sticks, lounge chairs and many other essentials for a good life in SecondLife. Frequent visits have already been made to the Textures R´Us store in search of good fabrics and other textures.

As the laird came late to building and has been preoccupied  with other matters lately his building skills are rusty - to say the least. If you are online when he hits a tight spot you can almost be certain to get a call.

Yesterday he managed to disrupt the lives of Adrina Welders, cobbler extraordinaire with the shop AW Designs, and Chade Dagger, well known studly club owner of Erotes, when he got stuck and remembered there was a way to do things but could not recall how. Adrina was hastily transported from whatever she was busy with to come and inspect and aid the laird.

The laird also made a call to SecondLife live chat for support when he for twenty desperate minutes thought he had blown away half of his humble living accommodations. Luckily he stayed calm, cool and collected and was experienced in all things SecondLife enough to do a relogg before calling up a rollback of the sim by Linden Lab. When he returned after the relogg everything seemed to be back in place (it must have been a camera thingy).

All the members of the McMillan-clan are up on their toes and ready to start the production-lines again. They are all certain that this surge will establish the BMcM Corporation as one of the leading enterprises in SecondLife.

Please be patient, he is crazy but he means well most of the time!

The Den at Easter

I went to The Den at Erotes late yesterday evening (my time).

Due to the ongoing Easter Holidays the club had less guest than usual but nonetheless DJ Butch Diavolo, club owner Chade and host Bacchus made sure that those of us that had come had a good time, they always do.

Here are a few sample pictures from yesterdays party.

What Makes A Good DJ?

Bock looking at Ars

I have spent most of my second life hanging around with - and surrounded by - some of the best DJ´s in SecondLife; Ars, Andrey, Sarco, Harley, Martial, Yannis, Zno and the rest of the Sarco Sound (link not active) crew and many of their DJ friends.

Over the last year I have mainly stayed in the Swedish clubs in SecondLife and there are some good DJ´s here too, the first names that pop up in my head are Frost, Lucien and sirhc, at Erotes I enjoy the music of Butch Diavolo and Arc - but I am not making a list so if you don´t find your name here don´t be sad.

My Ars used to say "Everyone thinks they are a DJ in SecondLife" by which he meant that playing records isn't all there is to it. Now first listen to what a real DJ can do, just lean back and enjoy. This remix was made by DJ Markus Schulz.

I found this summary on What Makes A Good Club DJ? by ElGringoSalsero;
Each year, DJ Magazine publishes its list of the top 100 DJ's based upon public votes. I would consider the top ten identified DJ's to be reliable experts on what it takes to be a good DJ. Here's what they have to say on the subject:

#1 Armin Van Buuren - "Timing and character."
#2 Tiësto - "A great DJ can adjust to the crowd, make them go crazy but still be able to do his own thing."
#3 David Guetta - "A great crowd."
#4 Above & Beyond - "Good taste in music, an open mind and experience."
#5 Paul Van Dyk - "The confidence of knowing what your own sound is. And not being a snobby ass and playing for yourself."
#6 Deadmau5 - "Their taste in music. It's a little bit of technical know-how, but 90% of it is the music you play."

#7 Ferry Corsten - "Knowing how to entertain the crowd. You're not there to educate. You should present new music without forcing it down people's throats."
#8 Markus Schulz - "Unique style and understanding of the momentum in the room."
#9 Gareth Emery - "Knowing the crowd is a fundamental requirement and looking like you're enjoying it."
#10 Sander Van Doorn - "A lot of interaction with the crowd. Playing a set is about educating on one hand, but also playing music that the people are there for."
---

My own two cents on this subject, from my perspective as part of the crowd:
1. Be prepared, for Gods sake plan your set! Adapt the music you choose to the event that is planned and the crowd you expect to be there. Always make sure you have enough music to go overtime if something should happen that requires it and enough to adapt your set if it should be needed.
2. Be aware of the crowd and work with it (it´s not a wanking session after all). Being arrogant and snotty is a definite no-no, you are there to entertain not to be a condescending s.o.b. This also means do not badmouth any other DJ´s, words spread.
3. By all means take requests if you wish to do so. It isn't necessary to play the requests straight away. play it later if it fits better there and if it doesn't fit tell them.
4. If you don´t have charisma or a personality don´t bother!
5. Most important of all be true to yourself; If you don´t like the music, don´t play it!

The technical stuff can all be learned as you go along.

Fourth Rezday Party Pictures - UPDATED!!!

Sorry for the delay with this post but I have a real life too ya know...

The pictures are mostly the gracious gifts of my dear friends Diana (surname withheld) and Joetonight Starship, one was stolen from my darling sister Millimina Salamanders blog and a few are my own.

All did not get captured on film by either Joe or Diana and they had - alas - both left us before the hunkalicious men from Club Erotes joined us. At a fast glance I can also see we missed taking pictures of Stirred, and many, many more but we were over 35 avatars a good while so...If anyone has more pictures and don´t mind sharing them with me, please send them to me!

Update 11 PM SLT (7 AM CET the next morning): I have now added a few pictures stolen from Apmel Goossons blog, that include Adrina, Sarco, Svessa, Vanadis, Chade, Volker and ush...

Update 10:30 AM (6:30 PM CET); I have added a picture of Apmel´s buttock cleavage on his insistence and for your comparison.

My deepest thanks again to everyone who came and to everyone who could not come due to real life or other reasons, but most of all to my wonderful family who convinced me this was a good idea and arranged it all with the wonderful surprise performances by DJ Andrey (my BIL and the other rezday boy), Strum Diesel, Bara Jonson, legendary DJ Sarco and last but in no way least Apmel Goosson for showing cleavage.

Call for Recount of Votes

I just read this shocking news on www.eddihaskell.com, and I felt I had to share it with you, my dear readers.

Today there apparently was a drag party at my favorite gay club in SecondLife, The Erotes.

My friend Eddi Haskell decided to go to the party and wore his best lavender poodle frock, sweet pearl earrings and an amazing hairdo. He looked perfectly stunning if the pictures do him any justice. The fact that he added the "Vivienne Westwood-esque" touch of dirty chuckers should have bagged the victory!

But he was robed! Yes, yes I do willingly admit that Dex Moleno always looks awesome whatever outfit he is wearing, but surely nothing and no one could have won over Eddi today, perhaps not even I.

This is a scandal of immense proportions, I have encouraged Eddi, who I am sure is in tears due to this, to immediately sue the Erotes Club and ask for a recount of the votes! We will drag that hunky club owner Chade Daggers (yeah, he is also a dear friend of mine) sweet ass through the courts until he loses every stitch of cloth on his amazing body.

All we ask for is justice and that Eddi gets the honor of the win he so rightly deserves! (I am telling you, even the Gore v. Bush case fades in the light of this outrage.)

Listening

Thanks to Butch Diavolo for introducing me to this at the Club Erotes today. This is Aly & Fila featuring Josie in "Listening"

Bonus for my fans

As a proof of my love and gratitude to you all I give you this poster of the best picture ever taken of me. The photographer is the amazing and multitalented Chade Dagger, owner of Club Erotes/The Den and the wonderful Hinterland sims.

I expect to see this poster plastered all over Second Life soon. Over your beds, over fire places and every other prominent place.

Let me tell some of you from the start that your out house, barn, bathroom or other toilet facilities are not considered prominent.

P.S. If some of you are wondering what the dark thing over my left shoulder is, it´s one of the towers of the Cathedral in Lund from a very interesting and unexpected angle. I loved the fact that Chade found that at once, it says so much about his talent!

Martial is back

"Patterns in the Palouse" by Gary Hamburgh

I logged on late yesterday - it must have been after 11:30 pm my time - to catch a bit of DJ Butch Diavolo´s set at Club Erotes/The Den, before going on to listen to my brother-in-law DJ Andrey at the Week-End Club in Boystown.

When I had arrived at Erotes and had said my hello´s I took a look at my friendslist just to check who was online. And then I got a big shock that brought tears of both joy, surprise and anger to my eyes. I am not really sure what I would have done if I weren't talking to Andrey at the time, most probably I would have lost it and logged off...

With my heart beating hard I told Andrey, "Guess who is online, my brother Martial..." or something to that effect. My emotions were in a total uproar, I was happy, sad, angry and nervous all at the same time. I couldn´t think straight.

The thing is you see, my darling, beloved and crazy brother Martial suddenly dropped out of Second Life late in the summer of 2009 (if I remember correctly). I was at a total loss to what had happened to him and was imagining all sorts of awful fates that could have befallen him, like being hit by a bus or murdered by a crazy one-night stand or something equally horrendous.

Ars was as usual good to me then, he calmed me down and told me there were loads of other alternatives for something like this to happen, things that were perfectly reasonable and that did not entail Martial being dead or lying helpless in a coma. After a long while I decided to believe Ars, still hoping that Martial was going to show up again someday. And indeed, now the day had come.

The next thing I told Andrey was, "Well, I am not going to talk to him...". I don´t know what made me say that, but as always Andrey knows me extremely well. He contacted Martial anyway, and told him to talk to me. I will always be grateful to Andrey for that, because of course I did want to talk to Martial, and I also needed to talk with him.

So when I got Martials first IM I felt like my heart would burst with the love I had always had for him, and all the things I wanted to ask him, all the things I needed to tell him about all the awful things that had happened while he was away and how happy, so very happy, I was that he was back again.

We talked tentatively for awhile but I told him from the start that I was too tired to go into details this first time. We must do that at a later time. I just wanted to know if he was doing OK and if he was going to be back in SL again after tonight. He told me yes on both questions, and I felt the relief flushing over me. I told him I was happy he was well and so very happy he was back and that we would talk it through at another time, because the shock and joy of seeing him online and talking with him was quite enough for the.moment.

Before we ended the conversation he thanked me for talking to him, and I told him he was one lucky s-o-b because I really wanted to strangle him. To which he of course answered, "I know". Smartass! He knew I didn´t mean it and that his comment would make me laugh. That was so good, because with the laughter I felt some of my anguish and anger go away. Martial always could make me laugh.

I am so happy you are back in SL with me Martial!

Ma Che Bella Serata

Ohhhhhhhhh what a wonderful evening anf night I had yesterday...

It started off with the 200th anniversary of "The Coffee & Pajamas Jazz Show with Elfay Pinkdot" at the beautiful "Circe´s Sunset Jazz Club". Elfay was inspired, the guests were intoxicated by her charming chat and the awesome music. If you missed it you really need to revise your priorities!

We actually started planning for the 300th show celebration in 2012, when someone said that that was the year the world would end according to some prophecy. Let me tell you now - if that propecy should be true - I know no better place to meet that end it than in the company of my darling Millimina, Elfay, Circe and listening to jazz!

After a brief nap - I am a bit tired these days, not really sure why - I loged in to a swimsuit party at Fride´s Beach. The music there was funkilicious and supplied by a great DJ melqt (pronounced Mel-Cutie I learned) Tennenbaum. As always at Mid´s parties, people were pleasant and all possibilities of drama dealt with in a charming way. Alas I was too tired to remember to take any pictures, but let me tell you two of the Apmels where there!

The youngest one is starting to look great - he may have started to work out - give him a few years and hearts will be broken left and right...
Picture stolen from Apmels blog "Min avatar heter Apmel"

From there I moved along to the party at Club Erotes - The Den the wonderful aussie club and one of the friendliest clubs in Second Life. DJ Butch Diavalo entranced us all. I had managed to drag the sweet Adrina Welders out of her shoe-shop and after some convincing hauled Millimina over there too. The guys were all so funny and chatty I forgot to take pictures again..

My great evening ended at "The Week-End Club" where my darling BIL ("brother-in-law") DJ Andrey Messmer entertained some of the hunkiest guys in SL, with the help of his friend and host Ciroc.

This time I remembered to take pictures again, would you believe it... Look at my BIL after his recent makeover, isn´t he a perfect specimen of an edible hunk?
