The Demise of an SL Institution

Today is the first day of the rest of our lives. It is also the first day without a new blogpost on My Avatar Name is Apmel, a SecondLife institution that has been accompanying and guiding us residents since 2006.
"She was in Paris" by Sergey Rybakov
Mr. Apmel Goosson Esq., enfante terrible, universal genius, philosopher, rebel, blogger, author, artist, cartoonist, etc., etc. and the honored 2011 recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Bock McMillan Art Foundation (a part of the BMcM Corporation), has for some selfish reason decided that after 10,000 blogposts enough is enough. He did so without due consideration of the significant emotional distress and soul-wrenching turmoil he thereby causes to his faithful readers.

However, I must begrudgingly admit that my bosom buddy, of course, has the right to make such a decision and move on to new endeavors. In a heart-to-heart conversation, Apmel promised that we would find him on other media platforms but did not want to specify saying "Only the future can tell! Besides I won't leave SL, my avatars would never forgive me :)".

Thank you for your dedicated work through these fifteen years, Apmel! We are all looking forward to seeing your future work.

My dear friend Ricco Saenz has published a great (as usual) post about Second Pride and the upcoming Pride Festival on his blog Second Sighting │ Ricco Saenz's Journey in SL. I highly recommend reading it.

The New Memorial For My Boys

When my, very much older (Oh he is so going to kill me for that!), brother Dejerrity surprisingly passed away last summer the need for a joint memorial arose for my late husband Ars, his and my brother Dej and (as we found when we cleared up Dej's parcel) Sterling, a k a Bobby, Dej's first husband and true love in SecondLife.

The old memorial which had stood for 8,5 years was starting to feel overwhelming and somewhat creepy, now that I was saner and calmer again. The question was where to place the new downsized memorial. As it happened The Laird's Gardner found true love and left his cabin, so a parcel was freed up, and after some discussion with my husband Tomais, we decided to move the memorial there.

The place is exactly where my and Ars "Quarreling Bench" used to stand (see my blogpost from 2011, The Quarreling Bench (url))
The new memorial site is on the east shore of the Southern Charm region and we have tried to make it a secluded place for the boys and those who visit with them. There is a bench for the visitors to sit on. The hanging lights on both sides of the memorial belong to Ars, who had left them hanging in the air when he passed away.

Tomais helped me and actually did most of the work under my benign leadership, which means that I approved of his excellent ideas from time to time.

I think my boys Ars and Dej would have approved. (I never knew Sterling as he had already passed away when I rezzed into SecondLife.)

I Was Also Unfriended by Ziggy

"I cleared my friends list of these blood suckers so I could move on and start fresh without hiding as an alt. They just can't seem to get me off their minds the poor little teatsy flies.", said by Ziggy Starsmith on his blogpost today.

It is of course everyone's prerogative to choose whom they they wish to have on their friends list in SecondLife or not.

When someone told me a couple of days ago that Ziggy had trashed them, I checked my own friends list and discovered I had also been trashed, along with my husband Tomais.

I sent Ziggy an IM, in which I told him that I had seen that he had trashed our friendship and that I was sorry to see him go. I also wished him well for the future. I wouldn't call it "whining", but it seems that Ziggy does.

Of course I would never wish to remain on someones friends list if they consider me to be a whining blood sucker who prevents them from living their SecondLife as they wish. Should anyone ever feel this way about me, I hope they will do as Ziggy and trash our friendship at once.
