Bye bye Arabella

I read the news on "Tinas universum" that Arabella Steadham has been permabanned from Second Life, and am actually not upset or amazed at all but rather grateful to Linden Lab for looking out for my safety, protecting my privacy and generally covering my precious arse.

I don´t believe a word of Arabella´s rantings on her own blog "Arabella´s Amblings", that she has been permabanned for being an honest, upright and outspoken person against the dictatorial Linden Lab.

You should try "OutWorldz" now Arabella, I have read a lot of good stuff about the boring place. They really, really need some more excitement there (except for the often occuring shutdowns) have fun!

  2. Bock:

I have been warning everyone in my blog since the Emerald issue surfaced not to ignore Linden Labs TOS. They do not take violations lightly.

I was amazed that when Emerald was made a non-approved viewer Arabella told people that it was "their choice" whether or not to use Emerald. I almost felt like a bad guy. WTF? Is it "your choice" not to pay taxes? Is it "your choice" not to stop at a stop sign? Sure it is! But if you do in real life and are caught you pay the consequences. And before Phoenix and Emergence were approved, some of these same people blithely told everyone to ignore Linden Labs and use them before the approval process was underway.

Both my dear friend Jennnnna Jameson, who was asked to change her name by Linden Labs (she changed it to Emanuelle Jameson and is doing just as good in terms of viewership for her adult films) and myself -- after purchasing a huge number of Lindens on Ebay over three years ago without knowing that activity was made illegal found Linden Labs MORE than willing to work with us once we contacted them to set things right. My account was reinstated with little fuss. They are not evil, are not out for themselves, but do need to protect themselves and their users, a perfectly understandable policy.

The Emerald team did amazing work and in my opinion it is a damned shame all this time and effort had to be wasted because someone decided to plant malicious code in a viewer, and some others decided not to comply with a simply regulation designed to protect others. Lets all move forward.

  4. Eddi, I could not agree with you more!

What I come away with from this whole experience is
    1) the insight that I was lucky to get away from this with a scare and no serious damage,
    2) the decision that I will not trust any other viewers than those provided by Linden Lab itself
    and finally
    3) the strengthening of my trust and belief in Linden Lab and its employees and the knowledge that they actually want to work with us and for us whenever it is possible.

  5. Me, no way! I am never putting my trust in a group of unsupervised adolescent computer geniuses again!

  6. I listened to the youtubes Wizanna mentionned and that totally put me off the Emerald team. Arabella seems to have a very dominant personality, always scary to me ;) So everything fell in place to me. I have seen SL improve over the years, I joined 4 years ago. So I have every reason to trust LL and if they banned Arabella, I am sure it is more than just because of her 'thoughts'.
Still, I wish her the best :)
