The Book of Daniel, September 10-20, 2016

From Mischa Moyet's reasons for this benefit, SL Destinations R Us; #630 The Book of Daniel Fundraising Event.
"I admire and acknowledge all the hard work that our designers do to be able to create the stunning articles and designs that us as bloggers advertise for them. One of my designers is that of Zerkalo and I was shocked and alarmed to hear that Daniel Estro, 29 years old, (co-owner of Zerkalo, Shiny Shabby and The Crossroads) has cancer and desperately needs our help.
The fight for his life began when doctors discovered a malignant tumour in his brain, about 7 centimetres in diameter. Daniel underwent life-threatening surgery to remove the tumour. The surgery went well. However, several weeks later what was left of the tumour spread throughout his brain and started affecting his brain function.. He is currently undergoing chemotherapy as well as radiotherapy. He is fighting as hard as he can to survive but as many of you might know, fighting cancer is very expensive.
Our dear Neva Zenga has created this event with an astonishing amount of designers to raise money for Daniel so the medical expenses can be less in burden and expense.
Zerkalo was the only source of income for Daniel and his wife Anais. Anais is unable to work without Daniel because he was the brand’s designer and mesh creator. They are so young and in love. They are two pieces of one whole, they give meaning to each other's stories, and one cannot exist without the other. Please help us support these wonderful people in every way that we can."
---
To me it sounds like a very worthy cause and after visiting I can honestly say that there is some quality item, mostly for women as usual but some for the men too.

Hair Fair 2016

The Hair Fair 2016 starts today and goes on through July 31st. As always this long awaited (Well, since last years fair closed...) event is in benefit of Wigs for Kids.

You can read all about the event - and do some window shopping too - at the events website Hair Fair │July 16th - 31st. (The website also provides SLurls to each of the stores participating, for easy access.) There are also additional sims for cam shopping.

Judging by the website there actually seems to be a fair amount of hairs for men, not the usual 1,5-2% hidden away somewhere undetectable.

Happy hunting!

Benefit for Bri - The Results

Today we learned the results of the monthlong "Benefit for Bri"-drive, initiated by RickJ Ewing and hosted by The Starlight Ballroom, accumulated to support Bri Franklin in her quest to finish her bachelor's degree in secondary education.

Through the collaboration of the generous content creators, who donated products to be sold with 100% of the proceeds going to the benefit, and the generous residents of SecondLife who besides buying the donated goods also made large donations the total proceeds of this benefit landed on an astounding L$147,000 and change, which is the equivalent of US$540.

The proceeds were today paid in full to Bri's GoFundMe.

The Closing Party at Visions of Hope

"Visions of Hope 2016", the silent art auction benefiting RFL of SL has run the month of May.

The Results/Closing party is on May 31, 2016 @ 5pm to 7pm SLT with the tunes supplied by DJ Hᴏᴛᴛɪᴇ B. (mjshotboy.skytower).

Last chance to see the amazing collection of art by the following artists: Bijou, Boudicca Amat, Ciottolina Xue, d-oo-b, Dru G. Eiren-Milneaux, Em Larsson, Hills, Inara Pey, Mareea Farrasco, Nikolai Warden, Proph, Pusher, Randy Firebrand, Ricco Saenz, Tomais Ashdene, Trinity Yazimoto and Ziki Questi. (Bids are accepted until May 30).

The silent auction was intended to raise funds for Relay For Life, a global initiative by American Cancer Society aimed at gathering donations to fight against cancer, as well as providing "a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer" and "remember loved ones lost", as the ACS webpage says. During the exhibition, the public has been able to acquire photo-based pieces as well as sculptures from some of the most renowned artists in Second Life and, at the same time, contribute with the ACS's programs to improve cancer survival, decrease the incidence of cancer and improve the quality of life for cancer patients and their caretakers. It should be noticed, too, that the actions by ACS are not restricted to the United States: lately, the Society has been contributing with initiatives to fight cancer around the world.

Take me to the Visions Of Hope Gallery (SLurl).

Last Days of Two Worthy Events

There are two benefits that have been running in SecondLife during the month of May 2016 that are coming close to their end.

The first event is the Visions of Hope, presented by Hope Haven Heroes, which is a benefit for Relay for Life of SL, and is a silent auction of photographs and sculptures donated by many of the best known artists in SecondLife.
The event will come to a close on May 30th.

Go there to donate and/or get your final bids in for the chance to win a work of art. All proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.

Take me to the exhibition Visions of Hope (SLurl).

The second event is the "Benefit for Bri", presented by The Starlight Ballroom, which is a benefit to help a young woman to fulfill her dream of one day becoming a teacher.

To help raise funds several well known and reputable content creators have donated items for sale (some with discount prices) where 100% of the price goes to the fund to support the young womans dream.

This event closes on May 31st, so you need to get there soon to get to donate and/or buy some of the good stuff.

Help Bri Graduate College

My friend RickJ has started this great initiative with the assistance of the Starlight Ballroom, Garrett and Kahvy Smith, to help a young woman fulfill her dreams to become a teacher.

I am very happy to share it with you.

CALL FOR CONTENT CREATORS

"Hi! Thank you for taking the time to read this! We are going to do a benefit to help Bri become a teacher and we need YOU!

A dear friend of ours and a well known and loved member of the SL community, Tomais Ashdene, has recently bumped into some bad luck due to corporate downsizing. His amazing daughter is studying to become a high school history teacher. Unfortunately that is a costly education, so she started a GoFundMe campaign to pay for school on top of her part time job.

We at Starlight Ballroom are passionate about education and want to help her become another great teacher! The world needs more people like her in our schools!

Read the information on Bri's GoFundMe Page: https://www.gofundme.com/2wbq2uvd

What do we need?

  • What we are looking for is people who would be willing to donate one or more of their creations for sale during the event.
  • Sales will start as early as may 7 and will run the entire month of may. When participating we'd love to have your item by may 14 at the latest, if possible.
  • Since prims and space are very limited low land impact items and/or boxed up items and/or items that can be viewed in one's own store or showroom are preferred. We sadly don't have the prims open for big displayed items.
  • We have a full perm free vendor for you to use, just put your price and percentage you want to donate in the script
Market stalls go first come first pick. You do not need a group for rezzing.
  • There are no rules to what you donate and how much of the sale revenue you want to donate (though we hope for 100%)
  • You can donate anything you like, but things to do with teaching or history will be extra cool!
  • The item does not have to be new or exclusive, nor are there any rules on selling it during or after the event, but promoting the event is of course appreciated!
  • There's no rules on permissions other than No Full perms with licenses attached to avoid any DMCA issues.
The benefit will have a big party with DJ's and live artists on Sunday May 22 during which we will promote your store/brand as part of the sponsors! We will also have a strong presence on Social Media!

If you wish to be a part of making a teaching dream come true, let us know and we'll hook you up as soon as we can.
We would LOVE to have you be a part of making this dream become reality!!! Please talk to Rickj Ewing or Kahvy Smith for more info or to sign up for this amazing benefit today!!!!
Much Love

The Starlight Team

Art Auction In Honor of Kylie & The Trace Too

Art Auction in honor of Kylie and The Trace too
Poster by Trinity Yazimoto

Art Auction: a fabulous farewell to Kylie Jaxxon
Auction start: 2nd August 2015 and ends 10th August 2015
The Trace Too (SLurl)
Kylie Jaxxon's beautiful sim, The Trace Too, is closing at the end of August as she has departed SL. Kylie created a beautiful sim that has become special to many people. Kylie was an avid blogger and somehow managed to find the most beautiful trinkets to decorate her lovely sim, then shared them with the community.
In honour of Kylie and her gorgeous work that has touched the SecondLife community, there is an art auction at her sim to celebrate her talent, and wish Kylie a fabulous and final farewell:
The auction was originally intended to raise funds to keep her beautiful sim, The Trace, open until the end of August. Due to people's generosity this goal has already been achieved, what an amazing result!
With this in mind, all proceeds from the art auction will now go to Relay for Life in Kylie's honour. This group raises money for the American Cancer Society within SL and we think it would be a very special tribute to Kylie if we could donate as many lindens as possible to this fantastic cause on her behalf. This is our way of collectively saying thank you for all that she has done for the SecondLife community, and remembering her talent.
A bunch of talented and generous artists have donated original pieces to the auction, and all their work is available for you to look at around The Trace. Each pictures has been placed as close to the location they were shot as possible. Check every corner, boat and deck to ensure that you don't miss any!
We really hope you'll join us to make this goodbye one of the best there has been in SecondLife.
Happy bidding!
---
Big thanks to Pinkrayne for the PR writing and her help for the set up.
Huge thanks to all the Trace lovers who have donated one or several pics for the auction (Eddie Haskell, Leonorah Beverly, Gidgette Adaggio, Seraphiel Galaxy, ScarlettElizabet, SereneDean, Kaelyn Alecto, Lumiette, Pearl Grey, Lo Coeur, Pinkrayne, Bamboo Barnes, Maxie Daviau, Skinninylla, Sabastian Melmoth, Hillara, Coober Galicia, Terravive, Becca, Chrysterox, Masquerade Snowbear, Lizz Avon, Rosy Highwater, Tripp Nitely) (if you are missing in the list please let me know).
An endless thank you to all the generous persons having already donated and those who will do it before the end of the month.
Thank you to you all
Thank you Kylie, for having been this so lovely person in SL (i so wish i could know you better) and for all the stunning landscapes you have offered to us for all those years.

Pool Party, Today Saturday July 25

Tomais and I are pleased to welcome you all to a pool party today between 1-3 PM SLT at our home on Southern Charm.

This event is to inaugurate our new pool and also to give you the opportunity to roam around the sim and take a look at the new mansion and the amazing landscaping by Samuel Fallen of Lytton & Fallen.

Entertainment will be provided by The Smith Boys, DJ Kahvy and host Garrett, assisted by my brothers Dejerrity Mycron and J.J. Goodman.

If you are so inclined, you will have the opportunity to leave a charitable donation to The Ali Forney Center (AFC).
The Smith Boys are graciously donating their time and labours to the AFC.

Your transport to the pool party at Southern Charm (SLurl).

The Ali Forney Center (AFC), based in New York, is the largest LGBT community center helping LGBT homeless youth in the United States. The AFC both manages and develops transitional housing for its clients. The AFC helps approximately 1,000 youths every year, most between sixteen and twenty-four years old. The AFC is named after Ali Forney, a transgender youth who was murdered in New York in 1997
