The Demise of an SL Institution

Today is the first day of the rest of our lives. It is also the first day without a new blogpost on My Avatar Name is Apmel, a SecondLife institution that has been accompanying and guiding us residents since 2006.
"She was in Paris" by Sergey Rybakov
Mr. Apmel Goosson Esq., enfante terrible, universal genius, philosopher, rebel, blogger, author, artist, cartoonist, etc., etc. and the honored 2011 recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Bock McMillan Art Foundation (a part of the BMcM Corporation), has for some selfish reason decided that after 10,000 blogposts enough is enough. He did so without due consideration of the significant emotional distress and soul-wrenching turmoil he thereby causes to his faithful readers.

However, I must begrudgingly admit that my bosom buddy, of course, has the right to make such a decision and move on to new endeavors. In a heart-to-heart conversation, Apmel promised that we would find him on other media platforms but did not want to specify saying "Only the future can tell! Besides I won't leave SL, my avatars would never forgive me :)".

Thank you for your dedicated work through these fifteen years, Apmel! We are all looking forward to seeing your future work.

Translator Added

In my continuous efforts to meet the wishes of my readers, I have today added a translator to the blog.

It is - and will always be - placed at the top of the left sidebar.

It's strange that I hadn't thought of adding a translator earlier, but it wasn't until a German friend told me today that he was sorry his English wasn't better so he could read my blog that I recognized the need for it.

Well better late than never! I hope it helps those of you who would want to use it, even if it is Google Translate with all its weaknesses it's still better than nothing. Google Translate supports over 100 languages at various levels, so hopefully, you will find your language in it.

SL Blogroll Clean-Up

Today I did a bit of delayed spring-cleaning when it came to my SecondLife blogroll.

The principles for removing blogs on my SecondLife blogroll have been
  1. The blog has been deleted
  2. The blog has not been updated for over a year
  3. The blog doesn't adhere to the principle of mutual reciprocity - "Why in hell should I promote that blog, if they cannot be bothered to link to my blog? Not having a blogroll is no excuse, the same principle applies." (Two exceptions have been made to this rule. One because the blog was recently restarted and the blogger may not have gotten around to adding a blogroll yet and the other because I myself find great entertainment value in it despite it not having a blogroll.)
If you feel you have been unfairly removed, please send a touching letter with your complaints, in triplicate, to
His Holiness, Pope Francis
Apostolic Palace
00120 Vatican City
Vatican City State

He may care more than I do, he is such a kind and caring man they say....

If you on the other hand, should already have me on your SL blogroll or happen to add me to it, please inform me by dropping a note card on my SL profile or sending me an email and I will be happy to promote your blog in return.

Goodbye

I have been procrastinating about this decision for a while, but today I reached the conclusion that all good (or bad) things must come to an end sometime, and that there is no better time than right now. This blog is over and done with.

When I started eight years ago I had some hopes concerning what I could accomplish with blogging, none of them have really been realized. It has become a bit of silliness mostly for my own entertainment and I am, to be quite honest, no longer entertained. I am sorry for having failed.

Thank you, to those of you who have taken the time to read my meanderings once in a while.

I'll see you all inworld!

The End

P.S.
I'll leave the blog up for awhile and decide later if I should take it down completely or not.

P.P.S. 09/23/2017
I have now come to the conclusion that there is no harm done in leaving the blog up and public. So it will stay up until further notice. Enjoy!

Welcome "Outside the Box"

Please join me in welcoming my friend Nathan Svenson to the wonderful world of blogging about SecondLife.

Nate's blog is named "Outside the Box". In a statement on the blog Nate tell us what he intends to blog about, "There is a rich and vibrant culture happening in virtual reality I plan to document some and hopefully learn more about the people and concepts I encounter."

"Outside the Box" has of course already been added to my blogroll with SecondLife blogs.

Ziggy, Oh Ziggy!

The enfant terrible of SecondLife, one of my favorite Canadians and my friend Ziggy Starsmith (a.k.a. Rex Short again) has decided to shut down his blog (lately in cooperation with his - now - former partner Dalton Cole) and to start a new photoblog instead. (Update: Ziggy tells me he and Dalton have rekindled and are staying together.)
I for one - and I'm sure many more - will miss Ziggy's wordblog, where he has shared his investigations of SL villains (Kharfest), his adventures and his life with us.

Read Ziggy's action-packed last blog post here: Ziggy and Dalton In Second Life: The End Of An Era...This Blog Is Now Closed.

You will find Ziggy's new photoblog here. Tempus Fugit.

We're Outta Here!

Yesterday my hubby Tomais and I had a long and serious discussion after which we decided that enough is enough is enough...

I myself have been in SecondLife for over eight years while Tomais has been here for close to six (not sex, which is the same number in Swedish) and a half years. We both feel that there can be more to life than the constant drama and bickering we encounter in this beautiful world.

Today, Wednesday April 1, 2015, will be our very last day in SecondLife. We are pulling up stakes and moving to World of Warcraft (WoW), where we plan to form a band of lovers in the tradition of The Sacred Band of Thebes consisting exclusively of male lovers and kick some ass in that game.

As we leave SecondLife together this blog that is dedicated to my existence in SecondLife will also close. I am not sure yet whether or not I will start anew once we have established ourselves in WoW.

Farewell friends, we will miss you all! If you ever join WoW, please look us up there. Kisses and hugs to those who loved us, the rest can burn in their own self-made hells.

Blogiro Ergo Sum

"Man At Work" Photography by Tomais Ashdene
While my Tomais and I were out scouting "things and stuff" for an upcoming super-classified project that I am involving myself in my lover spotted a great set of complete office furniture.

This lead to me buying the office-set and at Tomais wonderful suggestion set it up as a place for me to work on the top floor of the beautiful barn at Southern Charm. We will of course have to install double-glazing before winter comes, but right now it is a wonderfully quiet with a perfectly temperate climate.
The new workplace turned out beautifully and I was extremely pleased. My hubby deserved a huge reward for his great idea, and I made sure to give him one (much to my own enjoyment also - of course).
For the Latin in the post title I refer you to this article Scriptorium;"What’s Latin for ‘blog’? (revised)". I am hoping I understood it correctly, otherwise please feel free to assist me.

Random Thoughts

"Hands-To-Hold" by Tomais Ashdene
I started my four week long, glorious and wonderful vacation at 12.00 PM local time today. Well I didn't get away from work until a bit later, but who cares. It's going to be wonderful, just to relax and recuperate and enjoy my two lives. I am also going to try to use this opportunity to get back into a proper blogger mode, I have been slacking in my happiness of being married to Tomais.

The vacation was planned to coincide with the celebration of Second Pride Festival, which starts on Friday, because I so want to enjoy the festivities this year. The board of Second Pride made it despite all the many obstacles we have had along the way. I must confess that there were times I actually didn't believe we would have a festival.

The opening of the festival also coincides with the Swedish celebration of Midsummer. On Midsummer's Eve tomorrow I am taking my old parents to one of my nieces homes to meet the rest of the immediate family to celebrate in the traditional manner, loads of pickled herring, fresh strawberries and snaps. It will be great for them to get out of the house and meet their grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The other day, I was upset when i learned that a ghoul from the past has showed it's ugly head again. One would think that almost a full year would be enough to get over losing an election and move on with ones life, especially since the ghoul himself once told me personally "that he really didn't have time for all this with his important first life studies and the rest of his busy life". But nonetheless, here he is back spewing his ugliness and viciousness on the Internet again. I have decided I do not wish to waste time or energy on him and his small army of supporters anymore.

I have been thinking about the two largest gay organisations in SecondLife, Second Pride and the Gay Archipelago. Mostly I have been wondering about the strange armed peace there seems to be between them. I know the history of course, but so many years have passed by now that there really should be openings for some mutual support and collaboration. I have noted and welcomed the news that Gay Gor, which is a part of the Gay Archipelago, will participate in the festival again this year. (It will be so fun to see them in action again! I really loved it at the last festival.) I have also noted that Petr made a peace gesture by attending the send-off party for Garth Raleigh, the former lead of Gay Archipelago. Other than that I haven't seen any tangible progress in the dealings between the organisations.

The Dark Knight
"The Dark Knight" by Tomais Ashdene

Yesterday I learned that that The Dark Knight (a.k.a. Batman for those of you who aren't well-versed in Superheroes) has actually had two Robins? The first one left to become "Nightwind" (never heard off) and was replaced by another young man. (Today I was told that there have actually been s-e-v-e-r-a-l Robins, oh my!) That's what you learn from being married to a man like my hubby. That man makes me so happy and calm and safe. Who would have thought that a year ago?

I don't like the fact that my doctor has sent me to get a CT scan to check on my pneumonia. Once the doctors start looking closely, who knows what absolutely unrelated things they may find with their high-tech instruments.

About the Gay Archipelago again, I was saddened to note not long ago that this venerable club of sim-owners seem to have drastically lowered the standards of whom to allow within their circle. The venerable club must believe it can control any damage that could be caused to their reputation from that recruitment by their meetings being completely secret and having none of their dealings exposed to public scrutiny. Let's hope they are not in for a surprise.

Regular Blogging Is Resumed

The editor in chief of Bock in SecondLife begs his faithful readers indulgence and thanks them for their continued patience and support.

Nothing bad been going on, I have just been too happy and complacent. Perhaps I have also had a spell of spring tiredness, which has lead me to overthink my blogging too much instead of just doing it.

I felt that I was not at my best or passionate enough in my blogging if I wasn't angry, sad or desperate, but that self-doubt has passed now. I have come to realize that I need the blog to think things through and process events in both my lives even when I am feeling good.

So whether you like it or not, I am here for a while longer to share my not-so-profound insights, thoughts and wisdom with the world.

Ziggy Is Back!

It was only a few months ago that Ziggy Starsmith, to the dismay of his loyal and loving readers (of which I am one), tiredly declared that he was going to stop blogging full time.
The beautiful picture that Ziggy left us with in October, 2013
Since then we have only gotten a few bread crumbs tossed at us from time to time by the irate and erratic blogger, just enough to keep us from feeling totally abandoned and dying from mental and emotional starvation.

Knowing and loving Ziggy I, however, kept my hopes up and never removed his blog from my blogroll. Lo and behold, yesterday he came back to us - full force - with no less than five posts!

The blog has been slightly renamed to "Ziggy Starsmith On The Edge Of Second Life... And Beyond" with the declared promise of "brutally honest commentary of the virtual 3D world of Second Life".

Welcome back, buddy, I have missed your forthright views on the worlds as we know them!

Results of My Readers Survey 2014

A week ago I started a survey to elicit some more information about you, my dear readers. I allowed you a week to respond and the results are now in.

Here are the results:
Out of the 33 respondents on the first question, 27 (81%) identified as male, while 6 (18%) identified as females. None (0%) identified as Intersex, Transgender or Other.

Out of the 33 respondents on the second question, 22 (66%) identified as gay, 6 (18%) as straight, 3 (9%) as bisexual, 1 (3%) as asexual and 1 (3%) as other. None (0%) identified as lesbian.

Out of the 29 respondents on the third and final question (which allowed multiple answers), concerning reader involvement, 21 (72%) said they had commented, 6 (20%) said they had linked and 3 (10%) said they had shared, while the remaining 6 (20%) said they had neither commented, linked or shared.

---

Judging from the results of this survey we can conclude that the readers of Bock in SecondLife are an extremely cisgender (your experience of your gender matches the sex you were assigned at birth) crowd consisting of mainly gay men with a fairly high degree of reader involvement.

I thank all those of you who have bothered to take part in this highly unscientific study. Hugs and kisses to you all!
