On Shapeshifting

Shapeshifting in Second Life - or other less important virtual worlds - is on some blogs sometimes presented as if it was an unheard of occurrence in human imagination.

It is by these bloggers portrayed as something so dramatic that only a few heroic, imaginative and openminded dare cross "the line".

Well it´s not, far from it...

The thoughts, myths and fantasies have been around for thousands and thousands of years. Not even shapeshifting between the sexes is new.

With the advent of Second Life I have at times heard it said that at least 40 percent of the female avatars are controlled by men, while the figure is a little lower for male avatars controlled by women.

I cannot honestly believe many would raise an eyebrow or feel provoked by this in the least. It´s funny, it´s entertaining but not really original anymore, in Second Life we more or less do it at everyother party, in less evolved virtual worlds perhaps more rarely - but I would not know much about that.

Read more about it here: "Wikipedia"

  2. Good point there. I've been shapeshifting since my very first week in Second Life. I wouldn't call myself either heroic or imaginative. I just do it because I get bored with my looks quite fast. I honestly don't think anyone cares whether I'm a man, woman, machine, zombie, dragon, demon, mollusc or merkin. Mostly because shapeshifting is quite common. If you like it, then do it. But as you said. It's not really original or uncommon.

  4. Well I for one have noticed that I experience, discover, invent and LOVE more as four different shapes than only my first conservative Apmel who hasn´t even changed his skin since day one (he is starting to think about it though as he heard of a skin with included genitals).

  7. The most important first, a woman in "need" must be dealt with immediately! Mialinn, just GO FOR IT there is a 40 % chance it´s a guy!

Apmel, we love all your apparitions - and think no less of you for having them, quite the contrary!

Vampi, when I saw your comment the first thing I did was look at Blanche´s blog, and I must say I always loved an evil-looking clown! ;)
