The Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi's government yesterday gave its initial approval to a change in the Italian legal system, which could restore the prime minister´s immunity from criminal prosecution.
The new proposal is typical of Berlusconi's way of tailoring laws to benefit himself and comes just days after prosecutors have announced that Berlusconi would stand trial on suspicion of having bought sex from a minor.
In response to calls for Berlusconi (74) to resign over new revelations that a teenage belly dancer spent the night at his home he refused to apologize for his fondness for young women and said, ‘I work extremely hard and if every now and then I look at the face of a beautiful girl, then it is better to be passionate about beautiful girls than gay’.
Although we are used to scandals surrounding Berlusconi I cannot help being sickened and totally astounded by the tolerance shown towards this dirty old homophobe by the rest of the leaders of the European Union and the world. Imagine the outcry that would follow if the man was instead making derogatory remarks about ethnicity or religion instead of against women and gays.
Discrimination is discrimination is discrimination and should never be accepted.

I second Apmels comment.
ReplyDeleteI cannot agree more. Leaders in our country behaving like that and saying what he said wouldn't last a day.
