Due to some changes of the wording in the bill to get it to pass in the senate the bill will have to pass in the the State Assembly once again for confirmation before governor Andrew Cuomo - as he has stated he will - can sign it into law.
My warmest congratulations to all gay and lesbian New Yorkers for being granted your fundamental human rights!
The light of Jeebus has struck the city and yet she stands firm, and the straight marriages don´t dissolve either, what a wonderful day!
Besides having 19 million people (as much as Sweden, Finland, and Norway all together), New York is also a very influential state. It is the bastion of the Democratic Party in the United States -- even our Republicans are moderate and liberal (by the way, this means left wing in the United States where left wing is a dirty word).
ReplyDeleteNew York is a belleweather state. As New York goes, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and even New Jersey (once it gets rid of its Republican governor) may also decide to approve Gay marriage. In addition, it is home to New York City, by far the most important city in the United States.
This is why it is so important. It is perhaps a bigger victory for gay rights in the United States, as I have said, then Don't Ask Don't tell, which is YET to be implemented.
Awesome, Eddi! I am so happy for you all!
