Quarantine

Yesterday a summit meeting was held at the stronghold of the McMillan clan in SecondLife, the Southern Charm sim. The much honored Bock McMillan, laird of Southern Char and prince of Cascade Falls, had summoned prince Guyke Lundquist to the home sim for a conference.

Prince Guyke is of course best known as The Prince of Claddagh, which is the age old title traditionally granted to the heir apparent of the McMillan clan.

The conference had been called rather urgently by the laird after he had been informed that his stepson had engaged in a battle of abuse with a French in-law concerning "Who are the biggest dickheads of Europe", the alternatives being the French or the Belgians. Both parties showed such unusual linguistic talents and creativity in their insults that the laird was mightily impressed and full of awe while thanking his lucky star that he was not involved.

While the prince of Claddagh only showed a modicum of interest for the discussions with his stepfather, the laird himself struck up a conversation in Instant Message with Dejerrity Mycron, his brother in-law. During the course of this conversation the laird was alerted to the fact that Dej had fallen sick with the same uncommon cold that the laird had just recently survived. It became clear that the contagion must have spread from Lund, Sweden, to New York, N.Y., U.S.A. via the Southern Charm sim.

At this news the laird immediately ordered that Southern Charm should be placed in quarantine with only restricted travel between the sim and the outside world. He also ordered out his lazy nobility to douse every straw of grass, every leaf on every tree and themselves with alcogel to avoid spreading the disease any further into SecondLife.

Snow Over S.C. - World Cut Off

Snow has been falling heavily over Southern Charm in first life since midday Friday. The amounts of snow that have fallen have virtually cut off the world.

In an effort to save the world the Much Honored Bock McMillan, laird of Southern Charm (in both first and SecondLife) - and prince of Cascade Falls, has ordered all of his noble population to the rescue work.

Technicians and engineers are already working hard to keep logins and teleports open. The rest of the nobility will be given shovels and snow mobiles to dig out the world and thus save it from this imminent catastrophe. It is not yet fully known how long the world will survive being deprived contact with Southern Charm, but the best estimates show that the danger is immediate.

Besides saving the world there is another reason for the drastic measure of supplying the lazy nobility with shovels. The lairds planned trip to Stockholm - starting tomorrow - for a state visit with His Majesty Charles XVI Gustavus, king of Sweden, and a crisis meeting with The Nobel Prize Committee are at risk of being cancelled. (It seems the laird´s invitation to the prize ceremonies on December 10 has yet again gone astray.)

The Lairds Return

So - finally - after many promises and lots of strange excuses the Much Honored Bock McMillan, laird of Southern Charm and prince of Cascade Falls, at long last returned to his beloved home sim yesterday.

Well, to be quite honest, I was not at home very long because I had a Second Pride membership meeting to attend. The meeting went on for more than two and a half hours, which is an unusual long time and rather unexpected if you read the agenda.

I must admit that I may in some small way have contributed to part of the tardiness but otherwise I believe it may have been that many of us were in a slightly cantankerous mood and ended up splitting hairs for no real reason at all. When a whole lot of people get together in this state of mind the outcome is inevitably a very long meeting.

The meeting was not a total waste of time because the board was eventually able to decide to
- adopt new rules of conduct for the membership meetings,
- elect a board for the newly created Second Pride Foundation,
- create a new headquarter for Second Pride,
- create a Second Pride Build avatar and
- buy a special building for certain future events.

A strange thing happened during the meeting when our usually very efficient chairman Doc Spad - or "Sir Doc, Sir" as I call him in my mind - suddenly asked:, "Did you have a question Ars?".

I immediately became alert and started caming around in the conference room to see who this second Ars could be. Then he said "Sorry, I mean Forever did you have a question?". And it dawned on me that he must be reading my group tag and meaning me. We both laughed at the strange incident because he realized his mistake at the same time as I did.

I was happy I have come this far, because six or eight months ago I would not have been able to laugh at it and would have filled it with strange meanings.

However, I did manage to get in a few words with some of my friends and family during the meeting. And at the very end - before I had to leave for lovely and welcoming bed - I squeezed in a hug from my brother-in-law- D R E Y Porchers, nee Messmer, It was good seeing him again because I don´t think we have been in touch since before the summer.

International Kiss-A-Swede Day Is Today!

Today is Sweden´s National Day and the Swedish Flag Day, but more importantly it is also the second annual

International Kiss-A-Swede Day in SecondLife.

The amazing and breathtaking DJ FelineFemme will be there to supply us with great music.

I am hoping to be joined by other Swedes, both women and men, to serve the yearning International community. However the Much Honored Bock McMillan, laird of Southern Charm and prince of Cascade falls, has this day also been given the powers to appoint Honorary Swedes (Valid for one day only and only while remaining on the sim of Southern Charm in SecondLife)

You and all your friends are cordially invited to join the kissfest at Southern Charm (SLurl).

BE THERE OR BE SQUARE!

Now, all please rise for what should rightfully be made the Swedish National Anthem if the world was a just and righteous place.

I Feel Best In Open Landscapes
music and lyrics by Ulf Lundell (lyrics translated to English by Bock McMillan)

I feel best in open landscapes, close to the sea I want to live
A few months trough out the year, so I can get peace within
I feel best in open landscapes, where winds are blowing full
Where the larks fly free up to the sky, and singing wonderful
There I make my own aquavit, and flavor it with St. John´s Wort
And drink it with pleasure, with herring and homemade bread
I feel best in open landscapes, close to sea I want to live.

I feel best in peace and freedom, for both body and soul
No one comes too close to me, and shutting in and steal
I feel best when day is breaking, where fields are filled with light
When cocks crow far away, when it´s far to the closest house
But still so close, that one quiet silent night
When you're sitting under the stars, you can still hear the laughter
I feel best in peace and freedom, for both body and soul

I feel best when the sea is swelling, and gulls are crying high
When the beach is filled with seashells, with the oceans sound inside
When the clear and the simple, can exist the way it wants
Where yes is yes, and no is no, and doubt is lying low
Then I tie a ring of leafs, and lay it on the closest rock
Where runes were cut for our sake, once so long ago
I feel best when the sea is swelling, and the gulls are crying high

I feel best in open landscapes, close to the sea I want to live

The Laird´s Envoy Returns

Millimina, czarina of Solace Island and other distant territories
Photography by Kent Hutchinson/KH Photography
The McMillan Household sent an envoy to the Court of St James's to congratulate Queen Elizabeth II, constitutional monarch of the sixteen Commonwealth realms, head of the fifty-four members of the Commonwealth of Nations and head of state of the Crown Dependencies, at the celebration of her Diamond Jubilee.

The envoy was the younger sister of the Much Honored Bock McMillan, laird of Southern Charm and prince of Cascade Falls, the enchanting Millimina Salamander, czarina of Solace Island and other distant territories of the McMillan Household.

However the princess returned prematurely from London today with a case of "political flu". It is rumored that the dispute  between the McMillan Household and the Court of St James´s concerns the suggested seating arrangements at the festivities.

The laird would not comment on the diplomatic kerfuffle other than saying "We are very happy that our little sister is safely home again. Welcome back, Millimina!"

Citius, Altius, Fortius

After constant crashes for more than two week and a lot of other technical problems, in both my realities. I decided to change my SecondLife viewer back to the Linden Lab Viewer 3 and to upgrade my hardware. And you will most like not believe it, but this time I actually checked that my graphic card is from NVIDIA, it has always worked better for me.

The Much Honored Bock McMillan, laird of Southern Charm and prince of Cascade Falls, is consequently much improved.

Added value is gained by the fact that I again have voice-capability, although I have not had time to try it out yet, but I do not expect any problems.

As for my much needed attitude adjustments and the way I interact with people around me, these issues may take a while longer. However, you must always remember that I am steadily working on improving myself to your satisfaction, but this seems to be a lifelong project. Until this goal is successfully attained I have promised myself to
  1. take three deep breaths,
  2. think twice,
  3. count to 1.000 and
  4. (perhaps) "sleep on it" before reacting.
P.S. (as a response to my bosom buddy Apmel´s comment): Miracles are not to be expected, nor do I give any guarantees. All I can say I will still react, but hopefully in a calmer and non-boring manner.

How rude!

Artistically enhanced
picture of Ms. Sex Toy
removed on her request.
Can you even imagine the Much Honored Bock McMillan, laird of Southern Charm and prince of Cascade Falls, being called "Mr. Bagpipe" by an Icelandic woman with the name "Sex Toy" (as directly translated from Icelandic by Google Translate)?

Well, it did indeed happen today, right after I had quite pleasantly told Ms. Sex Toy that we should do each other the courtesy of ignoring one another completely in the future.

Such brazen effrontery and insolent shamelessness is fortunately not ordinarily encountered in polite company in SecondLife - or anywhere for that matter.

Update: After being requested by Ms. Kynlif Leikfang (see comments to this post) and due consideration, I have decided to remove my artistically enhanced picture of her. You can now see her picture in the comments instead.

As for Ms. Kynlif Leikfang referring to me as "Lauslátir Maður", which she claims means "promiscuous man" in Icelandic, I can only say that in every language I know anything about Google Translate shows me these translations. As far as I can see they all translate into "Free from dead man".

Preparations

The Much Honored Bock McMillan, laird of Southern Charm and prince of Cascade Falls, is preparing for his assignment as a host at the all worlds - and realities - premiere in SecondLife of "The Viking Gods - a music and dance show". Unfortunately he does not, like Cinderella, have animals to help him.

The laird is however heavily relying on the fact that the beautiful, witty and clever Mrs. Svessa Hax-Beornssen will be there to share the task.

Announcement

The Much Honored Bock McMillan, laird of Southern Charm and prince of Cascade Falls, wishes to inform his friends that due to personal reasons he will not be celebrating his upcoming anniversary on Sunday March 11, 2012.

The laird begs for your indulgence on this whim and asks that you refrain from any and all mention of it.

A celebration may occur at a later date, if so you will be duly notified through this blog and by personal invitation.

Miraculous

The much honored Bock McMillan, laird of Southern Charm and prince of Cascade Falls, lost his usual composure today and became teary-eyed and weak in his beautiful, well proportioned, hairy knees when he heard the news and the realization hit him with full force.

Carl Bildt
For the first time in history he was in agreement with the Swedish Foreign Minister, His Excellency Mr. Carl Bildt, about anything whatsoever.

"This was an unfair election process", said Carl Bildt, commenting on the Russian presidential election.

Vladimir Putin
"Putin won the election but observers suggest a significant deficiency", says Bildt. He continued to state that "Russia must improve its political system if the country wishes to become a European democracy like the others."

"Who would have thought that this could ever happen? Is there something I should reconsider, can I be wrong about Putin and the Russian election?", were questions the laird asked himself in the shocking moment when his perception of  the world was rocked to its foundations.

An Honorary McMillan

On this day H.R.H. Wild Zepp, spokesman for the McMillan household made this declaration.
"The Much Honored Bock McMillan, Laird of Southern Charm and prince of Cascade Falls etc., etc. today wishes you all a very merry Christmas.
To celebrate the day the laird has decided to name an honorary McMillan. As this is a very special privilege which grant the receiver the full rights to wear the family colors at any occasion he or she chooses and thereby becoming in effect an ambassador for clan McMillan it is no joking matter (although no voting rights or other clan privileges come with this honor).
After due consideration the laird has however found a very worthy recipient and has therefor on this day bestowed the honor upon his Sergeant at Arms sirhc DeSantis. Sirhc is well deserved of this honor due to his support in times of need and distress and for his successful efforts to keep the peace at his and his dear wife units premises and ever where else in SecondLife.
It so happens that it is also said persons birthday in first life today, but that has had no influence on this decision by the laird and is merely coincidental.
This kitten is courageous and kind and can go to venues and sims to which no other McMillans have dared to venture in many months. He will carry our offer of peace and goodwill to all!
An order will today be placed with the tartan maker extraordinaire of SecondLife mistress Elle74 Zaftig of the Bellissima establishment. Delivery of the tartan with full regalia should be expected as soon as the holidays are over.
All hail to our newest brother sirhc DeSantis-McMillan!"

The gathered McMillans cheer jubilantly and echo Wild´s final cry and start chanting at the top of their voices, "All hail sirhc, all hail sirhc newest brother of the McMillans" and "Three cheers for brother sirhc, hip-hip Hooray, hooray, hooray!!!"

Filling In For Saint Lucia

Saint Lucio in the crown
created by CurWay
for Lucia in SecondLife
The queen of Second Sweden, Ms. PetGirl Bergman (a.k.a. Tina Dahl) has taken a well deserved hiatus from her regular duties as regent, janitor, concierge, jack-of-all-trades and inspiring overseer of events.

Meanwhile we have reached the time in the year which usually sees the most magnificent and most well known event at the Swedish Embassy sims in SecondLife, the annual Lucia pageant. This event is traditionally celebrated every December 13th (or sometimes - in SecondLife - the weekend closest to that date).

When it became apparent to the Much Honored Bock McMillan, laird of Southern Charm and prince of Cascade Falls, that there seemingly wouldn't be a Lucia Pageant at the Embassy this year, he called for a summit meeting of his staff to confer on this crisis.

After some of the uproar that the lairds news caused among his princes and princesses, dukes and duchesses etc. etc. it was determined that there would be pageants on some of the other Scandinavian sims and a Lucia Party at the friendly Club OrmDricka. Although the laird was somewhat calmed by the information about the OrmDricka festivities he - after a deep sigh - spoke up:

"It is not enough! We cannot let this responsibility be passed on to anyone else. We must take it upon ourselves to see to it that there is a pageant at the Embassy this year like every other year in the history of SecondLife!

Let it therefor be known that Saint Lucio will be filling in for Lucia this year and even if I have to make the walk myself it will be done, as it must be done!

Inform his majesty king Bieber I at once of my decision, he may want to join with his consort the beautiful lady Nethermind.

Also inform all Swedes and all other people in SecondLife that they will be welcome to join me and walk the walk for Sweden and for SecondLife. We will need Lucias, Lucios, star boys, gingerbread men, chimney sweeps and Santas lots of them all.

The pageant walks on Tuesday December 13th, 2011, 11 AM SLT. Tell all willing and able bodied men and women to be there at 10.30 to get outfitted and ready. Warn them that the laird may decide to sing in voice..."

Landmarks to the pageant and to the viewing section and additional information will be supplied tomorrow Monday December 12th.

Warning to Friends

Calm, cool and collected - or just a very poor self image?
The Much Honored Bock McMillan, laird of Southern Charm and prince of Cascade Falls, has - finally - started building again.

His head is buzzing with exceptional ideas on fashion accessories, candle sticks, lounge chairs and many other essentials for a good life in SecondLife. Frequent visits have already been made to the Textures R´Us store in search of good fabrics and other textures.

As the laird came late to building and has been preoccupied  with other matters lately his building skills are rusty - to say the least. If you are online when he hits a tight spot you can almost be certain to get a call.

Yesterday he managed to disrupt the lives of Adrina Welders, cobbler extraordinaire with the shop AW Designs, and Chade Dagger, well known studly club owner of Erotes, when he got stuck and remembered there was a way to do things but could not recall how. Adrina was hastily transported from whatever she was busy with to come and inspect and aid the laird.

The laird also made a call to SecondLife live chat for support when he for twenty desperate minutes thought he had blown away half of his humble living accommodations. Luckily he stayed calm, cool and collected and was experienced in all things SecondLife enough to do a relogg before calling up a rollback of the sim by Linden Lab. When he returned after the relogg everything seemed to be back in place (it must have been a camera thingy).

All the members of the McMillan-clan are up on their toes and ready to start the production-lines again. They are all certain that this surge will establish the BMcM Corporation as one of the leading enterprises in SecondLife.

Please be patient, he is crazy but he means well most of the time!

The Laird Inspects Installation Art

"No Name Yet" Installation art by Kandinsky Beaumont
The Much Honored Bock McMillan, laird of Southern Charm and prince of Cascade Falls, deigned to honor the Imagine peacefest at Solace Island with his presence on Sunday evening.

During his unusually lengthy visit the laird took the time to inspect a piece of installation art that had been partly sponsored by The Bock McMillan Art Foundation (a part of the BMcM Corporation). The installation was made by Kandinsky Beaumont, hostess of the event, and met with the highest approval of the laird.

The peacefest was a great success with entertainment by the singer and songwriter POL Arida and the fabulous group DRUM.

All and sundry of the existing art mob in SecondLife passed through the party during the many hours that the laird was there, but he most appreciated the presence of his beloved sister Millimina Salamander whom he had not met with in a long while.

€55.5 Billion Recovered

Germany is 55.5 billion euros ($78.7 billion) richer than it thought due to an accountancy error at the bad bank of nationalized mortgage lender Hypo Real Estate (HRE), the German finance ministry announced today.

The Much Honored Bock McMillan, laird of Southern Charm and prince of Cascade Falls, laconic response when asked about this news was, "Bookkeeping isn't that easy, you know. Those of us who are accustomed to these large amounts of money sometimes make slight miscalculations. It must be expected, we are after all only human."

My Computer Crashes, World Isolated

The title of this post is a travesty of a famous British newspaper headline that read, "Fog in Channel; Continent Isolated".

Well, around this time yesterday I started having strange things happening with my darn computer, which lead me to decide it was a good idea to do a system recovery. The much honored Bock McMillan, laird of Southern Charm and prince of Cascade Falls, and myself have since then been toiling tirelessly to break your isolation.

Do any of you realize how many updates your computer receives during a year, if you include all the different programs you have been using, or how many reboots it takes to get things back in order again? I am sorry to say I did not count, but my best estimate is that their have been about 550 000 or more updates and you need at least 25 500 reboots.

So now your isolation is broken and I am guessing you guys didn't even notice you were isolated. The world is cruel!

If anyone knows how I use the security copies I took of my bookmarks and what I must do to get them back in my browser I would be most grateful, neither the laird or I are technically savvy. To our relief I was however able to recover my treasured photo-collection.

And ohhhhhhh my mail and contacts are also lost, hopefully my little sister Millimina will again be able to help me with the mailing address to Ars sister Debbie, if I cannot find it in the System Recovery Files mess.

Install A Fresh Viewer

Hear ye, hear ye, gather around for the second technical sermon by The Much Honored Bock McMillan, laird of Southern Charm and prince of Cascade Falls, nowadays a.k.a. The Sublime TechMaster General of All Things concerning SecondLife.

So quoth the laird:
You've been in SecondLife a good while now and have most likely gone through loads of viewer updates or even changed viewers a couple of times. All the while you have been fiddling about and messing around with your viewer settings until you have completely forgotten what you did, where you did it or even why you did it.

You probably think - like I did - that every time you uninstall a viewer and install a new one it´s a virginal and completely fresh install. Well, the thing is it isn't a fresh installation at all because all your fiddling about and messing around with the previous viewers have been saved on your computer.

To get a fresh installation this is what you must do in Windows. All of those who belong to "The Holy Sect of Mac", sometimes also known as "The Latter Day Church of Job" must find your own way.

1. Uninstall your viewer (this is best done from the Control Panel - Uninstall a program).

2. Click on the Start-button in the lower left corner of your screen (see symbol). When you click the Start-button a menu appears with a search field at the bottom.

3. in the search field type %appdata%

4. Press enter. After you have pressed enter a new menu appears over the Start-button which contains a folder named "Roaming"

5. Click on the Roaming folder. When you do that a box appears containing loads of different folders.

6 a. Look for and delete the folder named "Second Life" or the name of the viewer you were using.

6 b. While you are at it you might as well also look for and delete any folder with the name of any of the previous viewers you have used; Firestorm, Phoenix, Emerald, Viewer 2.0 or whatever they have been called.

6 c. Go to your [username]/AppData/Local folder and in that folder look for and delete the folder named "Second Life" or the name of the viewer you were using.

Do not worry, none of your Inventory in SecondLife will be lost. That is all stored on the Linden Lab computers.

7. Empty your Trash.

8. Reboot Windows (which means restart your computer, Ars taught me that)

9. Download and install your new viewer

10 Congratulations, you now have a fresh start in SecondLife!

So endeth the second - and probably last - sermon of the Sublime TechMaster on All Things SecondLife. Please note, the TechMaster was taught this trick by the formidable Ewa Aska, owner of Vadstena Castle.
---

I was too uninspired for anything else today, so I share my acquired knowledge instead.

Rumors: Nobel Peace Prize to Bock?

As the week has gone by the McMillan household has ticked off the prizes as they have been awarded.

Nobel Prize for Chemistry NO
Nobel Prize for Physics NO
Nobel Prize for Physiology and Medicine NO
Nobel Prize for Literature NO

Of course the declared recipients are all well chosen and worthy, but are they really more worthy than the universal genius The Much Honored Bock McMillan, laird of Southern Charm and prince of Cascade Falls.

The laird - as we all know and recognize - is a man well known for his extraordinary mastery in several different areas of human endeavor as shown through his works and accomplishments?

The disappointment in the household was particularly large today as many had set their hopes on the prize for Literature.

Hopes are now mounting that the Norwegians tomorrow will show more insight than the Swedes have done and award the laird the Nobel Peace Prize for his humanitarian travails and feats in both the virtual and the real worlds.

Cruising at Southern Charm

The Much Honored Bock McMillan, laird of Southern Charm and prince of Cascade Falls, was today spotted cruising in the forest on the home-sim. He was all dolled up with no where to go because his usual Sunday hangout, The OrmDricka Club, had cancelled it´s regular event for reasons the proprietors  chose not to divulge to their regular patrons.

"Well, I guess we must allow the club owners to have secrets if nothing else then because they both are so cute and friendly!", he thought to himself while he was looking out for some studly guy to hook up with.

No such luck though, the sim was totally deserted except for himself and his animals, not even his only tenant and brother in-law Dejerrity was anywhere to be seen.

Perhaps it was only the wrong time of day or maybe the home-sim was not a good place to pick up men.

However, as he was walking around he heard the cuckoo for the first time ever and took it as a greeting from Ars. With that thought he happily logged into first life and decided to have an early night instead.
