The Second Pride Chapel

Away from the busy stages and shopping areas the Build Director Jak Calcutt has created a little haven of peace and serenity where we can all visit to remember our lost ones for contemplating life and it's never ending caprices.

The non-denominational Second Pride Chapel is a beautiful build by master builder Jak as you can see in the pictures in this post.
Inside the wonderful little chapel there are candles that you can light in remembrance of a lost loved one. (Just touch a free candle and then write the name in local, without < or >, as I mistakenly did *sigh*.)

The chapel is located in the Southwest corner of the main sim or you can use this landmark for easy access Second Pride Chapel (SLurl).

Second Pride: Float Sponsor Deadline June 1

If you are considering a Gold or Platinum Sponsorship in this years Second Pride Festival, these are the last few days to select your float and send your logos to the organizers. (So as not to overburden The Great Builder Jak Calcutt with trivial matters, I usually handle such things trough his sexy and really quite clever handyman and little helper Karl Kalchek.)

So, its high time to pull all your thumbs out and take the plunge, get your floats or balloons here: Second Pride: Parade Floats 2014.

Second Pride: Continued Trials and Tribulations (Edited)

This is probably old news for many of you, but as I have failed to report on it earlier I am doing so now.
Andy Long
Jagger Naughton
Last week we saw new changes on the Second Pride board as the board approved the resignations of Co-Chair Andy Long and IT Director Jagger Naughton. Both resignations cited "personal reasons" for this move.
Merrick Genesis
World Undercroft
At the same meeting two other board members, the Events Director Merrick Genesis and the Marketing Director World Undercroft, positions were discussed for "failure to attend meetings for three consecutive sessions without prior permission from the Chairman of the Board". Further discussion will take place at the next meeting when the board may also decide to release them from their positions.

Baz Ceawlin
The board also appointed Baz Ceawlin as new IT Director. As he has previously been a reliable board member we should be hopeful that he will stick with it until the next election.

After this "annus horibilis" with all the coming and going of members of the board, the Second Pride board now, apart from Baz, Merrick and World, consist of these reliable and stalwart people who will hopefully stay with us trough the fast approaching Second Pride festival period.

Petr Hastings Vanbeek, Chairman
a.k.a. "Big Daddy"

Marge Beaumont, Treasurer
a.k.a. "No Nonsense Marge"

Sutry Long, Security Director
a.k.a. "Sutry the Strong"
Karl Kalchek, Community Relations Director
a.k.a. "The Little Helper"

Jak Calcutt, Build Director
a.k.a. "The Best Little Hugger in SecondLife" & "Master Builder Extraordinaire"

P.S. I have corrected this post after receiving some feedback from members of the board.

I won the Oscar's in the categories of Best Husband and Best Blogger. The jury consisted of my hubby Tomais Ashdene alone, so the choices are of course completely unbiased and cannot be disputed.

Finally Moving Ahead

The Second Pride meeting on Sunday was a joy to witness for a devoted member. Instead of the bickering and infighting that has characterized the previous meetings, the few members that had assembled, saw a board working constructively to deal with the issues at hand and even raise their eyes to look into the future.
Left to right: Jagger Naughton, Sutry Long, Marge Beaumont, Karl Kalchek,
Andy Long, Jak Calcutt, Hottie B LockJaw and Merrick Genesis
The second most huggable man in SecondLife Jak Calcutt (Build Director) was granted access to the Second Pride avatar for the remainder of this year. The step was taken to avoid unnecessary delays in building as the avatar holds all the landscaping material, textures and buildings etc. that are owned by the organisation. The board and the membership present were convinced that enough safeguards are in place.

Jaggy’s Co-chair for IT Director is Baz Ceawlin, Andy’s Co-chair for Secretary/Co-chair is Story Long, Sutry’s Co-chair for Security Director is Jordan Anderson, Marge’s Co-chair for SP Treasurer is Jynxx Beebe. Karl, Jak, Hottie B (the board member formerly known as Hotboy) and Merrick are still looking for suitable candidates.

Millimina Approves!

I am studying my beautiful loved ones and trying to guess what is going on between them
Dimi & Mark Tarantello, DJ Sarco, Tomais and Millimina
Yesterdays SP Winter Ball took place in the beautiful ballroom that the amazing Jak Calcutt, SP Build Director, has set up in a magnificent castle over the Second Pride sim.

Jak must have had his little helper Karl Kalchek, SP Community Relations Director, polishing the floor for weeks. It was so shiny in fact that I was relieved that I did not go commando in my family tartan, which had been one of my clothing options for this illustrious evening.
Dej and I
Tomais and Guyke

My sister Millimina dropped in unannounced and unexpectedly to give Tomais the third degree. Both parties were extremely discreet, however Millimina later informed me that my chosen lover had been vetted and met with her approval. Jubilation!

A Great Sunday

Tomais and I started off with a little cuddling, once Tomais had figured out how my bed worked and could show me...
The we went ahead and tinted my mesh-feet, Tomais achieved in five-ten minutes what I hadn't been able to do in three hours. I have now decided that if tinting is that easy I am also going to get mesh hands and ears. Tomais then went on to show me why it is so handy and how easy it is to create outfits in folders.

When we couldn't get into the Shoetopia fair, we decided to take a look at Tomais hangar, where the Ashdene Aviation Co keeps its fleet of airplanes and helicopters.
That made me really excited to go on my first air trip in SecondLife. Tomais is an excellent pilot and I felt very safe.
After a while weekend-SL acted up and we had to log off to be able to get into another plane, an amphibian airplane this time, which took us to Guyke's and Ziggy's parcel Paradijs and their home Villa Kakelbont.
We talked a while with Guyke and Dex, Guyke's and Ziggy's, sexy Greek neighbour, before Dex had to go to bed and Tomais had to seek cover because there was a tornado, with winds up to 70 mph, closing in on his first life home.
I suffered the twins, Ace and Max, before Guyke finally decided to put the little brats to bed. As I understand it having babies in SecondLife is much like the Zion chicken scam and all the other breedable animals. You have to pay loads of money every week to feed them and buy toys to keep them happy and contented.
Now, that wasn't even half of it, just the short version.

I also had a good and long conversation with the master builder of Second Pride the extremely huggable Jak Calcutt, who was busy getting the Second Pride sim ready for the Christmas parties and balls. His little helper Karl Karlchek also got a word in sideways when we allowed him...

Not to forget, I received a royal invitation to visit with the Queen of Netherlands etc., etc., etc. BM Oh (her majesty actually has more titles than I have given myself, but I will soon remedy that) together with my stunning new man. The queen is really eager to meet Tomais.
---

Please keep Tomais, his family and neighbours in your thoughts and wish them safety as tornadoes wreak havoc in the Midwest.

UPDATE 4:21PM: All is well with Tomais, his family and closest neighbours. The tornado passed within five miles of them and created a lot of damage but no reports of worse stuff, not yet.

Lazy Sunday

The laird rests while his guardian angels Butch and Guyke watch
Rest and recreation is essential for a man like The Much Honored Bock McMillan, laird of Southern Charm, prince of Cascade Falls and sovereign ruler of The Commonwealth of Southern Enchantment with Outer Territories and UN Protectorates.

Noblesse oblige, so between his laden social calendar, his lairdly duties and his investigative blogging (or being a general busybody as some call it when he doesn't report as they would wish he reported) take a heavy toll on even a strong man.

Yesterday an opportunity for some rest opened up, as the board meeting of Second Pride was not unduly prolonged, although some unsuccessful attempts were made.
The present board of Second Pride (with the exception of Tylo Mabelion), from left
to right Jagger Naughton, Petr Hastings-Vanbeeck, Damian Tar, Gaius Tripsa,
Karl Kalchek, interim build director Jak Calcutt and Hotboy Lockjaw.
The board announced that it had received two applications for the vacant positions as Treasurer and Build Director. It was decided that the candidate statements would be posted on the Second Pride website for membership review and that the board would later vote on the issue at a public meeting on Wednesday night October 2, 2013, at 6PM SLT.

The candidate statements are already posted here: Second Pride; Board Candidate Statements (url).

Although I will not spoil your fun when going there to check out the applicants, I must say that I welcome them both. The two would, in my not so humble opinion, be a tremendous asset for the Second Pride Board in its future work.

The Second Pride Rebuilding Project

After the Second Pride board meeting yesterday, which was calm and uneventful, those present were invited to a tour around the building site by the interim Build Director Jak Calcutt and his handyman Karl Kalchek, the Community Relations Director.
Thanking the genius while his husband jealously looks on
I was so impressed by what I saw on the tour that I later insisted on taking Butch and Dej back with me to take another look. (Do not expect any revealing pictures of the amazing buildings in this post because I have promised myself not to do that until the project is closer to being accomplished.)

Although I fully sympathize with and understand Karl's difficult position as overseer, source of inspiration and menial handyman to the brilliant builder during this harrowing process (as I had much the same role during the recent rebuilding of my own palatial mansion) I cannot help but falling in love a little with the brilliant and truly humble genius of Jak.

Everything he does is extremely well thought through and inspired to be an even more beautiful and more functional new home for Second Pride itself and the non-profit organizations that are also housed there. I am so looking forward to seeing and showing you the result when the time comes.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank Jak and Karl again for their patience and for taking me, Dej and Butch on a new tour so soon after the first one.

Second Pride Renewed

We have had a couple of truly devastating months in those parts of the gay community in SecondLife that are affiliated to the Second Pride group.
The ugly election campaign and its even uglier aftermath, with the - hopefully - final manifestation when the two resigning directors removed all the landscaping and buildings on the Second Pride sim, leaving the nonprofit organizations and Second Pride itself in effect homeless. The sim was left almost completely barren and desolate, thus mirroring our pride that had been shattered by the internal strife. I couldn't even bring myself to visit the Second Pride sim when I got the news that the main building had also been removed, I knew it would be an ugly sight.

At the last board meeting Jak Calcutt was appointed as interim Build Director to see to it that the sim was ready for a few upcoming events. His workload was of course increased many times when the main building was removed the day after his appointment.

After hearing that Jak had started his work, with help from others when required, I decided to make a visit to the sim today.
I was extremely happy by what I saw. There was a beautiful new main building in place and I could see that work was still being done. While I was there I was lucky enough to be joined by the builder himself. Jak explained to me that due to the urgency a readymade building had been acquired and he was now modifying it for the needs of Second Pride and the nonprofits to see to it that all had roofs over their heads as soon as possible. Additional buildings would come later and in less haste.

I did not know Jak earlier, but while I was listening to him tell me what he was doing and was going to do I felt optimism growing within me again. Much has been lost and destroyed, but we can work on together, regroup and rebuild and start looking towards the future with hope again.
Second Pride will rise again from the shameful depths to which it has been dragged and we will be able to focus on what is important for us and on our goals again. With such pleasant, dedicated and hardworking members as Jak, and many others like him, we simply cannot fail.

I am very proud that I got a new friend today and that my pride is renewed.

Temper Tantrums, Thrills & Tribulations

I crawled out of my warm and cosy bed at 4.30AM local time to attend the SP2014 emergency board meeting called yesterday at 8PM SLT. Let me assure anyone that doesn't know me well that this was a great sacrifice on my part for my  readers and for the membership of Second Pride.

When I logged in-world I grumbled a little at my sweet brother in-law Dejeritty, checked if what I was wearing was decent enough and then teleported to the Second Pride sim.

The sim which once was beautiful nowadays looks sadly empty and depleted since the two directors that have resigned after the elections have seen fit to remove all the landscaping and buildings that were in their names, with the exception of the magnificent main HQ-building but including the delicately charming Chapel.

The agenda for the meeting was the following,
1. Call to Order
2. Chairman Comments
3. Resignations
4. Call for Candidates
5. Transfer of Second Pride Avatar Account
6. Discussion of Previous Private Meeting Logs
7. Open Discussion/New Business
8. Adjourn Meeting

As should be obvious to most "the dynamite" was contained in #6, as the disgruntled faction of the board have often in statements and comments, on Facebook and various blogs, referred to what had or had not happened at the board's private meeting before the public board meeting on September 8, 2013.
The IT-Director is baffled by the actions of the irate Security Director (my interpretation)
My general observation from this meeting was that it was more than usually messy due to a certain board member and some members of the audience not being able to follow the basic rule of public meetings, i.e. to ask to speak and wait to speak until you are given the right to do so. Instead we - despite the chairs best efforts - got a lot of out-of-order disruptions with blurting out of opinions and copy/pastes filling the screen. This is of course totally unacceptable and I would earnestly suggest that the board considers future measures to warn once and then kick-out offenders who cannot obey the rules, whether they be members of the board or the audience. We need a mutually respectful tone of discussion at the meetings in spite of different opinions on the issues.

When we reached #6 on the agenda the discussion was extremely heated. Among others Mrs. Story Long made an exceptionally moving plea to the board to publish the logs. I support her sentiments and arguments wholeheartedly. Mrs. Long said, "This election and everything that's followed has created drama, not saved the community from it. There is so much distrust right now, so much drama, there needs to be transparency everywhere there can be or the community will shrink away to nothing. The community is very, very, very, unhappy. Pay attention to that. People are calling for facts. so give it to them!"

The board's final vote on the matter ended 3-2, with one abstention, against the publication of the log, which made me extremely disappointed as I can see that the vacuum arising from the non-transparency of what really occurred at that meeting will give further occasion for the disgruntled board member and the two resigned ones to create havoc for Second Pride while they go on working with their new alternative organisation "The Boystown Pride", which has miraculously produced a group and a website in a very short time. Unplanned? Coincidence? I wouldn't be so naive to believe so.

Moving on, the board further decided to send a request to the directors that had resigned requesting that they transfer the buildings that had been removed to the Second Pride avatar. There is of course no way the board can force the two resigned directors to do this, but several voices were heard that believed the two would in fact "do the right and honorable thing". We will simply have to wait and see what happens.

The board also decided to ask the membership for donations for the additional landscaping and building that needed to be done urgently fore upcoming events. I for one am going to support this cause, as I want a Second Pride sim that I can be proud of and that is a safe haven for the  various non-profit organisations we wish to offer offices on the sim.

The board finally decided to appoint Jak Calcutt as an interim building director without voting rights until such a time that a new building director could be found.

I think that is all, well as I remember it, for the complete, unbiased, fair or whatever your wish recount of the meeting please go to the Second Pride website.

If you have any objections concerning my fairness, objectivity or anything else in my reporting please send a letter, in triplicate, to President Bashar al-Assad, The Peoples Palace, Mount Kassioun, Damascus, Syria, and see if he cares because I most certainly do not.

You may now be asking yourselves, "What was the thrilling part of this meeting?" Well, that happened as Ohiomike Lockjaw, who was sitting next to me at the meeting, crashed repeatedly due to a faulty graphic card. It took him a few moments to rez every time he came back so I was thrilled to see this transformation in all its splendor.
Oh, let me just let one final bomb explode. Yesterday I received a copy of the full chat log of the private group meeting the board had on August 28, 2013. I am as yet thinking about how to use it, but stay tuned for further news on this. The group chat log was received from a source outside the board whom I consider highly trustworthy.
