WTG Apmel

It´s a great joy to see that my friend and co-blogger Apmel Goosson´s blog "Min avatar heter Apmel" today hit the 600 000 visitors mark!

As you hopefully still remember that blog received the prestigious lifetime achievement award from The Bock McMillan Art Foundation (a part of the BMcM Corporation) the past weekend.

Way to go, Apmel, you are an example to us all!

SecondLife Culture Blog Honored - Updated

Original header
Updated header
In a communique issued this morning by The Bock McMillan Art Foundation (a part of the BMcM Corporation) it has been announced that the foundation has decided to honor the blog "Min avatar heter Apmel" ("My avatars name is Apmel") with "a lifetime achievement award for it´s dedicated work to spread information and knowledge about art, culture and philosophy in SecondLife to the culturally challenged residents of both the virtual and real worlds."

The chairman of the foundation, The Much Honored Bock McMillan, Laird of Southern Charm, in an exclusive interview said: "It is true that Mr Lennart Nilsson, the primatar behind the hosts of Apmels swarming all over the virtual worlds of SecondLife, InWorldz etc. etc., is a dear friend to me and my sister Millimina, but that has nothing to do with this decision. The foundation simply wishes to recognize the blog for it´s worthwhile and dedicated work. He may sometimes be an enfant terrible but he always stays true to his character and his elected mission."

UPDATED with the new blog header! Did I tell you Apmel is sweet?

Big hugs and lots of thanks to my loyal readers, and all the newcomers also!

Happy Fourth Anniversary

Today we celebrate the fourth anniversary of the oldest Swedish blog still in existence "Min avatar heter Apmel".

The soul, the brain and the heart behind that blog is of course my bosom buddy and mentor Apmel Goosson. May there be many more years of blogging to come for you and "your relatives", Uncle Ib, Apmelina and Kludden.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, APMELS!

P.S. I just checked and this blog celebrated it´s "real" first anniversary on January 12th, 2011, it was founded earlier but the first real blog post was on that day. So now you know what all we Swedes do in a New Year, we start a blog!

Hmmm the other two celebrating blogs chose a slogan for the coming year, I guess I should do so also! Mine will be "Let´s live, love and party!"

The 2011 Bloggies

It's time for the Eleventh Annual Weblog Awards. Nominations have now opened and will close on January 16th, 2011.

The Bloggies began in 2001 to discover which blogs the Web considered the best, and have grown to be the longest-running and one of the largest awards for weblogs. Which lucky bloggers will earn a Bloggie this year?

I don´t expect to be nominated -  or even win. Well not this year...

But there are actually some categories that really fit this blog like a glove
a) European - well undeniably
b) LGBT - Hell yeah, I am here and I am queer
c) Religion - I have faith, not in God perhaps, but in mankind
d) Politics - Hell yeah again, what would life be without it?
e) Food - Yummy, I like good food and drink
f) Parenting - This may be unexpected, but I have seen "Supernanny"
g) Music - Let me just give you a hint - "Mauro"...
h) Gossip - Well, this is the category I call "news"
i) Fashion - Has anyone missed my Jesters Hat?
j) Topical - Any topic, I am game...
k) Group - Any group, I am game...
l) Humorous - Well I get 5 points for trying
m) Secret - Hell no one knows about this blog
n) New - Fresh and spruce
o) Lifetime - well I have been around for a rough year
p) Weblog of the Year - This would suit me best I guess.. dunno why, just feels like it´s all me...

There are a few more, but I got bored and tired.

Best wishes to "Tinas Universum", "Min avatar heter Apmel", "Joe.My.God" and "www.eddihaskell.com", I am keeping my fingers crossed for you all

I found this on Apmel´s blog, and thought I should share it with you all! It´s a great piece of work by the performance artist SaveMe Oh. Enjoy!

I find myself keep going back to it, so finally I caved in and posted it here for you too.

I Never Thought It Would Happen

I just read a post on my friend Apmel´s blog "Min avatar heter Apmel" ("My Avatars Name is Apmel") that totally made my day!

Apmel is a big admirer of SaveMe Oh, who is a performance artist in SecondLife. For the first time ever I got a glimpse of what he finds interesting about this particular artist.

I haven´t been able to stand her before today and did not understand why everybody - herself included - thinks she is soooo fabulous.

I never thought I would ever agree with SaveMe about anything whatsoever, but whaddaya know she rings my bells already in the first three lines of their conversation.

"SaveMe Oh: I tried out opensim, inworldz and craft
SaveMe Oh: and its all a bullshit
SaveMe Oh: you can build like crazy, but no one ever comes to look at it
"

Read the full conversation between Apmel and the amazing, the soothsaying free spirit, the virtual world genius SaveMe Oh here.

Truthfully, I have started to suspect that SaveMe Oh may be my evil twin, well at the very least a kindred spirit of sorts.

Woodstock Festival week & "Hair"

This is just a little reminder about the Woodstock Festival week that starts today in Swedish SL. Read more about it in my earlier post here.

I am also extremely proud to now inform you all that the amazingly creative couple Ewa Aska and Jesper Prinz from the "Ice Hotel in SL" have joined in the fun and invite us to enjoy their production of the musical "Hair".

The grand in-world premiere will take place tomorrow Monday August 16th, 2010, at 2 pm SLT on the Lapplandia sim. (SLurl to Lapplandia stolen from Jespers and Ewas blog The White Room.)

As you may know already Ewa and Jesper are also the producers of - and the shining stars in - the biggest musical rage in the SL-world during the last year, "ABBA Sweden".

Jordgubbsmarmelad?

Censurskandal i SL!

The images on your build are in violation of our general rating, to be clear: Nudity is not allowed at art events with a general maturity rating.”

"Dear Courtney Linden,

As a reaction to the rejection of Rose Borchovski ‘s art installation : The Kiss at the Celebration Sim, I would like you to read this.

It seems to me incredible that you are enforcing censorship concerning nudity in public forums on Second Life.

Traditions of nudity in Western Art have for centuries been legitimate, honourable and creditable.

The cyperspaces of Second Life - and Second Life has so far proved itself to be among the very best of such events - are among todays' cutting edge of visual languages - continuing an enviable tradition of new technologies in the visual arts now that the orthodox cinematic arts are proving themselves moribund and archaic, and enforcing new efforts to avoid artistic elitism and the encouragement of egalitarianism in artistic expression Any artist worth his or her salt, always must engage in contemporary technologies - it has been the very reputable tradition of the most worthwhile artists that has benefitted us all. Visual artists have always taught us to look. The man-made world owes them everything.

Just because you have eyes does not mean you can see. And the political and social emancipation of the naked and the nude by artists has been essential for humanist civilisation - it has given you and me great liberalities of thinking and self-respect.

Whatever else you think you may be doing with Second Life, you have created a very sophisticated tool that combines traditions of painting with cinema and the graphic arts in present tense terms that permits visual expression of language like never before. Do not underestimate what you have created - but to remain creditable you simply cannot enforce reactionary hypocritical standards that have been so discredited over the last five hundred years.

Like any self-respecting artist of course I am against gratuitous exploitation that demeans and insults intelligence and sensibilities but by your blanket censorship you are now doing both those things - insulting artistic intelligence and demeaning sensibility.

I suspect you are responding to pressure, to some form of mind-police, certainly to some form of political correctness that is related to money and the slow swing to the political right that is happening all over the world related to civilisation's fear of financial insecurity. Don't go that way. You are endangering a tool that is greater than you.

When the cultural histories of the early 21st century are written from hindsight, you will undoubtedly find the possibilities and successes of Second Life being eminently lauded and praised. Too many art forms in the 20th century have been stunted and deformed and deflected into ineffectuality and banality by small mindedness. If you really insist in so-called protection of innocence (and I really wonder what that really is - is it a synonym in fact for ignorance and intolerance?) then do so on a careful case by case basis with intelligence and foresight. This will be troublesome for you to do, if you want to do it well. But it will be very well worth your while,

Yours, hoping you will see sense, and not be influenced by short-term gain.
Peter Greenaway, film-maker."

Censorship always sucks, Linden Lab, but this was totally outrageous!
