Bock Quoted in First Life Media

I happened to Google my name today and to my amazement I found this article on CTV News.ca from August 30, 2011 where they actually quote a comment I made on copyranter´s blog.
Link to the article http://www.ctv.ca/CTVNews/TopStories/20110830/salon-black-eye-ad-campaign-110830/

As I am an International first life celebrity now the price of my autograph just went up to 5 L$.

Time to Sign Up

If you aren't an organ donor already you should sign up for it now.

Always make sure that you let the people close to you know where you stand in this matter, so you do not dump the decision in their lap at a time when they are preoccupied with other things!

Organ Donor Foundation TV commercial - 'Leila' from kirk gainsford on Vimeo
(via copyranter)

This is by far the best public service announcement for organ donation I have ever seen, it´s strong and hits home hard. The best part is of course that it is completely true. If you aren't an organ donor you do take 5-7 others with you who could have been saved!

Swedes can sign up here Donationsrådet.
Americans can sign up here organdonor.gov
Canadians can find out how and where to sign up here Canadian Living
Australians can sign up here Australia MediCare
Danes can sign up here sundhed.dk
Britons can sign up here Organ Donation
New Zealanders can sign up here Organ Donors Foundation
Belgians can find consent forms in French and Dutch here
The Dutch can sign up here - with DigID Donorregister or with a form Donorregister

In Finland it is automatically assumed that you consent to organ donation unless you have previously expressed opposition. (Way to go, Finland!)

Lazy buggers of any other nationality, just do a Google search for organ donation and your country.

Word As Image

(via copyranter)

The challenge: Create an image out of a word, using only the letters in the word itself.

The video is made by Ji Lee (이지별) a designer who was born in Seoul, South Korea, raised in São Paulo, Brazil, and today lives in New York, U.S.A.

I totally love this, apart from the fact that it makes me miss my BIL Andrey!

Line Up

This is just a cool advertisement I saw at copyranter a while ago.

I find it very amusing, and cannot help thinking about the trials the poor photographer had to go through to get this great shot. (I don´t think it is done in Photoshop, but others may know better.)

On another note I owe you all an update on how my mother is doing. She remains in the hospital and will most likely stay their at least another week.

Mother is still on antibiotics and oxygen, but last night she was also given two bags of blood because they found that her hemoglobin count was very low (85, normal is around 120). Apparently mother has been bleeding somewhere internally but they do not seem to know from where yet. Due to dehydration she will also be getting a drip overnight.

However mothers erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) which was at 285 when she was admitted to hospital is now down to 55 (normal value for women in mothers age group is <20), which means the antibiotics are helping.

The doctors are still hopeful and so are my family. I am getting a bit despondent as the additional troubles set in as I recognize the situation, but I am also trying to keep my hopes up, mainly for my parents sake.

I am too tired for SecondLife tonight so I am staying away.

Cool People

(via copyranter)

I totally love this ad for Carlsberg. Brave and open minded people who do not judge books by their covers truly deserve Carlsberg´s, well cooled.

Fashionable?

copyranter today informs us about this detestable ad on his blog; Canadian hair salon promotes itself. I left the following comment (with a minor correction of the spelling):

"This is absolutely sickening, horrific and shameful!

How anyone can even consider this to be a "cool" way to promote anything at all except spousal abuse is a sad statement on how men´s violence against women is still viewed in many parts of society.

Thanks for exposing these douche bags, copyranter!"

Another commenter gives us the address to the salons website where you can tell them what you think about their fashion sense.

Hopefully The End

I hope this is the first and final picture on the stupid "planking" mania I will ever post.

I join copyranter in hoping that God hears prayers (even if I am an atheist) and will grant this wish!

If you need a worthwhile pastime why not join SecondLife, or even better go visit with the sick, the elderly or the lonely people in our midst.

On Circumcision

Today two of my favorite non-SecondLife blogs choose to raise the subject of male circumcision.

copyranter does so by showing a new Filipino commercial about a boys journey into "manhood" (boring add) but on a back link to an earlier post I found this truly inspired commercial for a man owning a circumcision clinic.

Joe.My.God. also touches on the same subject with a post about a San Francisco anti-circumcision group that has collected enough petition signatures to place a city-wide ban on the practice on the November ballot. The commenter's have gone wild on the subject of the pro´s and con´s of circumcision. There are more than 185 comments now.

My own position on the issue is that mass-circumcision of infant boys is genital mutilation and child abuse. Admittedly there are a few cases when it is warranted by medical reasons, but otherwise I cannot see any valid arguments for this procedure being performed on infants.

In my mind this surgery should only be performed with informed consent on adult men. I for one would hate to have my foreskin removed, just saying.

(And yes, I totally agree that female circumcision is much more invasive and a more important issue to fight against, as it leads to more problems for the women later in life and also deprives them of the possibility to fully enjoy sex.)
