SPIRIT LIGHT DANCE COMPANY PRESENTS

 -:¦:-

10TH ANNIVERSARY SHOW

OCTOBER 4TH, 11TH & 18TH, 2020

12 PM (NOON) SLT

"I can’t believe it!!  Maybe you can’t either!  But the Spirit Light Dance Company (SLDC) is now ten years old!  In another few years, it can qualify for a driver’s license!  What were you doing ten years ago in SL (OK, you don’t have to fess up)?

In honor of its tenth anniversary, SLDC will present a dance retrospective—a greatest hits event, if you will—from selected shows over the years.  The performances will be on October 4, 11, and 18.  Expect to be regaled by dances from classical ballet, Spanish tempos, modern explorations, jazz rhythms, contemporary beats, country music, and of course, everybody’s favorite, Bollywood!!

Why is SLDC still around?  It’s because of a decade of constant study and innovation by SLDC members on how best to unlock the secrets of blending next-generation technology with classic choreography.  Where in the physical world can we so effortlessly perform a dance ensemble in thin air without resorting to imagination (or lots of cables)?  Where can dancers swim with the fishes . . . and breathe with the fishes?  Where can gravity-defying and breathtakingly colorful sets be erected with the click of a switch?   Over the last decade, SLDC has invited us to be guests on voyages through lands in which only the imagination roams.

Why is SLDC still around?  It’s because of the people!  Innovation doesn’t happen without innovators.  Vision doesn’t appear without visionaries.  And building doesn’t get done without builders.  But of primary importance, SLDC is a community—even a family of sorts—in which all members are encouraged to participate and to share in each other’s gifts.  Their artistry is spawned from a collection of individual efforts.

And then there is Caryl, the founder and current Director of SLDC.  Her real-life choreographic experience, her creativity, her energy, and her relentless pursuit of artistic perfection have produced the spark that has kept the company moving.  She is already planning (probably in her usual meticulous detail) the next ten years.

So please come and join us for this special event!  Bring your tapping toes, your sense of wonderment, and for many of you, your memories of what has been at SLDC, and your anticipation of what lies ahead.  Remember, at Rockcliffe University auditorium, 12:00 noon SLT, on October 4, 11, and 18.

See you there!"

Second Pride Was On Fire!

Late Saturday - or very, very early Sunday morning for us Euros - the hawt, sexy, stunning, mouth-watering Men in Motion set Second Pride on fire (at least the gay men and the bi men and women) with their shaking, rattling, rolling, jumping and even more sensuous movements.

Well, my friend Si de Brit, who is a dancer in the company and choreographed two of the dances (Hint: Look for fire!) convinced me to stay on. I didn't regret it one bit.

There were quite a few of the SL-glitterati along with some sexy and creative security personnel. (Congrats to the sim at LEA, Levi!)

I had to leave at 4AM my time to "take care of business", i.e. go to bed before I fell asleep with my head on the keyboard. (It gives you such a strange look the day after...)

Subway Grind - Fashion Blog

My husband Tomais has lately been busy creating a decayed urban townscape around The Northmead Gallery, up on a platform above the sim. The town has a lot of nooks and crannies and should hopefully lend itself well to photographic ventures.

One of the last additions is a subway station, it was added the day before yesterday and yesterday our friend WayneNZ released the fashion blog in this post on YouTube.

Yes, thank you very much, I have already gotten the amazing dance and will subject my lover to those moves until he or I break our backs. Still thinking about the jeans though, I mean, who really needs another pair? But what the heck, I'll most likely get them too...

To Gnussa - A Swedish Variety

As this blog's intrepid ethnologist and reporter from the regions around the Arctic Circle I will today share a report on a relatively modern phenomenon in Swedish dancing. I only heard of it myself last week.

Wikipedia informs us (translated to English by yours truly):
"To gnussa is a variation of or addition to the couples dance Foxtrot. When dancing the foxtrot most couples do this with their heads next to each other, eyes straight ahead, cheek to cheek. To "gnussa" the couple instead support their foreheads lightly against each other. As their feet move the couple roll their foreheads smoothly against each other. The couple always look in the same direction and always in the direction in which they are moving. If the couple has a big difference in height the shorter partner can instead support their forehead against the taller partners lips or chin.

To gnussa probably originated in the area around Sundsvall, Sweden, and arose early in the 1990s. From there it spread to the rest of Sweden, with growing popularity."

Let's let Jonathan and Lisa demonstrate the moves for you.

Hip Hip Hooray, Because I'm Eight Today!

Today I celebrate my 8th rezday in SecondLife. Who would have thought - that day long ago - when I first logged in that I would still be here eight years later? Not me, for one!

There have of course been times when I have asked myself what the fuck I am doing here. I can tell you two reasons about why I continue to come back, although I have sometimes doubted my sanity.

The first reason - and absolutely most important one - is the other residents. In the wonderful, strange and exciting world of SecondLife, I have found good, caring and interesting people to spend my time with. Two of them have become my lovers, a few more have become my family or close friends while others have been good friends or interesting and exciting acquaintances.

The second reason is that nowhere else can I dance better and look so good while doing it!

Thank you friends and family for our first eight years together, I am so looking forward to the next eight years with you all!

Fine Dancing

The Much Honored Bock McMillan,  laird of Southern Charm etc, etc, Tomais, Duke of Erat etc, etc, and Guyke, Prince of Paradijs (the traditional title bestowed to the heir of the laird) etc, etc, and other royalty in SecondLife received a special invitation from her majesty BM, Queen of the Netherlands in SL etc, etc, and the dance master her dance master Mr. Kahvy Sands Esq. to attend an event of light entertainment and fine dancing on Sunday evening.

We were of course all delighted to accept and cherished this rare occasion to escape the gawking stares and pointing fingers of the plebs. The only two commoners present (except for the entertainers) were Ms. Helene Dragoone and Mr. Butch Diavolo (in shoes!).

Entertainment was provided by an amazing singer Reallymad ''Mick'' Morpork and later by the DJing talents of Mr. Sands.

As the duke proved to be extremely useful in these surroundings and very adept in choosing the correct dances, the laird could relax and enjoy himself completely in his strong and muscular arms.

Neon - A Very Special Show

Yesterday I had the special privilege of being invited by my friend Holter to a special performance of "Neon" by the Spirit Light Dance Company in honor of WayneNZ's birthday month.
It was an extraordinary production with well synchronized dancing set to contemporary music. The dancers were all dressed in bright and colorful outfits to, and here I quote from the monologue for the show, "...reflect the beauty of our oneness, while rejecting the monotony of sameness, in bright expressions of diverse color and design. Spirit Dancers dance as one company, but unique bursts of light glow from each individual. Spirit Light."
Holter, WayneNZ & I
Despite my highly informal attire for an occasion like this I was heartily welcomed by WayneNZ and the rest of audience. We were a small select group as the marketing of the event had been deliberately careful to keep the lag at a minimum.
Now over to the show!

I a well aware of that I am sometimes accused of saying that everything I encounter is "awesome", "wonderful" and "beautiful", but I will not care about those evil minded bitches, because those exact words come to my mind when I am reliving this experience, together with "inspirational", "fantastic""exuberant", "explosive", "marvellous", "fabulous","moving", "well coordinated" and "breathtaking".

If you ever get the honor of being invited to a performance by the Spirit Dance Company, jump at it without hesitation. You will not regret it!
