Must Read for Rod Humble and Linden Lab

Rod Humble and the rest of you guys and girls at Linden Lab must already know that I love you all and that I am usually a staunch supporter of what you guys provide us with. But...

We - the residents that have been here a long time and still come back - have seen you perform several changes in our in-world experiences that do not seem to address our immediate concerns and problems. This has continued despite repeated promises from both my beloved Phillip Linden and from you too dearest Rodvik Linden.

We did not ask for "mesh", you shoved it down our throats, neither did we ask for "pathfinding", which you are force feeding us now. If any of these things are happening to fix the stuff we have been praying you to fix, you have been awfully bad in communicating it. And if it isn't, why the hell don´t you fixed the promised things first before doing things that are cool only for the tech-geeks?

Please read the plea from another frustrated resident (and a very smart and cute cookie at that) Mr. Ziggy Starsmith Thank You, Linden Lab ... Thanks Alot! (url).

The Danger With Mesh-Clothing

I have some friends and family (read fashionistas Butch Diavolo and my brother in-law Drey Porchers, nee Messmer) who keep telling me how wonderful mesh-clothing is. Well call me old-fashioned, but I still cannot get over the fact that I resent clothing that needs my body to adapt to it instead of the other way around.

While I was in-world this afternoon, waiting for my prodigal stepson Guyke Lundquist to turn up in-world (as he had promised to do in an email sent to me at 4:23 AM this morning), I started to prepare the parcel where my Kiss-A-Swede event is taking place on Wednesday and chatted in instant message with friends who actually were in-world.

I also talked with Drey, whom I hadn't seen in-world recently. When the time was past 6 PM CET and afternoon turned to evening I gave up on Guyke coming in-world today and told Drey I was logging off for a nap. Before I left, Drey came over for a hug. That is when I discovered another drawback with mesh-clothing, see pictures below.

This is what my darling BIL saw on his screen.

And here is what I saw on my screen.

Luckily for my BIL I am Swedish and have no problems with nudity, even full frontal with no dick attached, so he got his hug anyway but don´t come preaching to me about how "awesome" mesh-clothing is until they get this problem fixed. Who in the world wants to turn up naked anywhere?

Oh, I should think Guyke forgot all about our nightly e-mail correspondence because he was not fully awake and probably had forgotten all about it when he woke up this morning. I love him to bits anyway!

P.S. I just checked my e-mail and there was a reply from Guyke to the e-mail I sent him before taking my nap. He tells me he had not forgotten and asked me to reread his e-mail from tonight, because he had actually told me he was coming in this evening.

So I thought, "Haha now I have him nailed to the wall", but as it turns out I must still have been half-asleep when I read the e-mail this morning. *blushes* Sorry Guykechen!

C O L O R S at KMADD

Soon after I had logged inworld I got a notice in the KMADD Group about a fashion show. I haven´t been to one of these events for a very long time, so I thought to myself "Hell, why not?" and off I went.

The lag was of course atrocious in the beginning, but once they had restarted the sim things got much better. When I got back to the show I grabbed the first empty seat I saw hoping that no one was already sitting there.

As it turned out I ended up besides this very interesting looking man, who´s name was Dark Hennesy.

Following my usual urge, I checked out his profile and realized he was a part of the DeeTaleZ (SLurl) fashion company and actually partnered to that company´s owner and designer Steffi Villota. No wonder he looked so interesting.

Suddenly someone sat down on my right and I knew his name already, it was Frolic Mills of The Best of Second Life (BOSL).

So here we are sitting all lined up and hobnobbing, Frolic of BOSL, Bock of BMcM and Darki of DeeTaleZ. I am sure the other two had never heard of or seen me before, although I have seen Frolic around SecondLife several times earlier.

Da guyz, fashionistas
The show began with a few words from the MAD in KMADD, Maddox DuPont, who welcomed us and told us about the various designers in the evenings show. His whole style for the evening was well suited to the name of the show.

I will start by showing you the male looks, I got most of them on camera (except the last one due to a crash). The comments under each picture are my immediate thoughts when I saw the models.
Good only for a sports themed party
Oh well....ok...I guess...
Seen it before
Beautiful (This is the men´s look I liked best)
Ughhhh! Yikes! You cannot be serious? Imaginative and the blue is nice.
Yawnnn!
I totally hated the boots and the visor
All in all not too bad, but I must admit that I am still not particularly thrilled by mesh-details in men´s fashion.

As I have probably told you before, but I much prefer clothing that adapts to the body instead of the other way around. I also like it when clothes flow like natural material (cloth, leather etc.) instead of appearing like one is wearing armored plate as a gladiator or a knight in medieval times.

Now for the women´s looks. As usual these were more imaginative, creative, funny and beautiful.
Beautiful
Nice colors but whats new?
Fun - but still hate the Trekkie visor
Woohoo - this and one of my jester hats, perfect!
Very classy! My favorite in the women´s looks.
Huh, nice red but then what...?
Nice but old

There Is Hope For Mesh

On the first day of the wonderful year 2012 we are reached by the news that there has been a breakthrough in handling Mesh.

Karl Stiefvater is both cute and clever
It seems that Qarl Fizz (formerly Qarl Linden while he was still employed at Linden Lab, a.k.a. Karl Stiefvater in first Life) has made a breakthrough with code that actually makes Mesh adapt to your shape instead of the other way around.

Read more about it and watch the video and the code that Qarl has created on his blog qLabs Blog, or read more about it

in English in Ciaran Laval´s blog entry Mesh Clothing Parametric Deformer Goes Alpha or

in Swedish in the Svens(k) Idyll blog post Lösning på ett Mesh-problem?

This is great news for us all. What an extraordinarily wonderful way to start this year, I love all these brilliant techies that improve my life!

Telling It Like It Is

Ziggy Starsmith, my buddy and fellow blogger, isn't all brawn and sexiness, but has a well functioning brain to match.

I never understood the mesh mess and why we should  have to suffer from the introduction of that feature into our wonderful world the way we have been forced to do these many months.

Read what Ziggy has to say in the matter Ban Mesh, Back To the Old Phoenix Viewer.
---

Rodvik Linden and all our other friends at Linden Lab, hear our cries of despair and our prays: Please, please, realize that mesh is a dead end and drop it now! You are killing us with lag and crashes and worsening our over all experiences inworld.

We want clothes that adapt to our avatars, not clothes that force us to adapt our avatars to the clothes. Back to the drawing boards again my wonderful, resourceful and creative team of programming geeks! (Yes, I do realize that there may be more to mesh than the bloody gawdawful clothes... but it still seems to stink.)

UPDATE:
Jessica Lyon from the Phoenix/Firestorm team invites us to a seminar today to discuss matters.

"The Q&A will be held at1 PM SLT at the Rockliffe university regions with the following landmarks.
Note: Due to the amount of people we expect to arrive, please arrive early and use the following landmarks based on the first letter of your first name.
