Circus Assange continued

WikiLeaks cofounder Julian Assange should be extradited to Sweden for questioning and possible trial on charges of rape and sexual assault, the British judge Howard Riddle decided in a ruling today.

Riddle said the Swedish prosecutors' request that Assange be handed over was valid and reasonable for their investigation into allegations that he sexually abused two women last August.

The defense team has left no stone unturned in this extradition hearing. They have argued that Swedish prosecutors did not have the authority to issue the European arrest warrant and that what Assange is alleged to have done would not count as serious crimes under British law. Assange's attorneys also called a witness who portrayed the chief prosecutor in the case as a radical feminist with a vendetta against men. Furthermore, the defense argued that Assange would not receive a fair trial in Sweden, where rape trials are usually held behind closed doors and where, defense lawyers said, adverse publicity surrounding the case would prejudice the outcome.

But the judge dismissed all those arguments. Riddle said the arrest warrant was procedurally correct and properly issued. Having sex with someone while she was asleep "would amount to rape" in Britain also. And as for the media attention and remarks in the press about the case, the judge decided "I am absolutely satisfied that no such comments will have any impact on the decisions of the courts, either here or in Sweden."

Assange, who denies the accusations, has seven days to lodge an appeal which should probably drag out the case at least a few more months.

Sublime Revenge

This story has kept me laughing the last two days, so I thought I would share it.

Rick Santorum is an American politician and a former Republican US Senator from Pennsylvania. When Santorum in 2003 was asked for his position on the Roman Catholic Church sex abuse scandal, in an interview with Associated Press, he equated homosexuality with pedophilia, incest, adultery, bigamy, and bestiality.

Dan Savage is an American humorist and sex advice columnist with a blog named "Savage Love". He is also a gay activist.

As Rick Santorum's anti-gay comments were being forgotten by the mainstream media, a writer under the pseudonym "Sex and Rick Santorum" urged Savage to organize a reader contest to determine a definition for the word "santorum." The reader reasoned that since Santorum had invited himself into the bedrooms of homosexuals, they should be "inclusive" and name a gay sex act for him. Savage agreed, after pointing out that there are no "gay" sex acts, saying: "There's no better way to memorialize the Santorum scandal than by attaching his name to a sex act that would make his big, white teeth fall out of his big, empty head."

Savage then declared a contest for a redefining the word "santorum" and let his readers vote on the contributions. The winner was a "the frothy mixture of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the byproduct of anal sex,"

Savage then proceeded to set up a website "Spreading santorum"

As Santorum is now positioning himself for a bid to be the Republican candidate for President of the United States in the upcoming 2012 elections he is complaining that "Spreading santorum" and Wikipedias explanation of the word "santorum" unseat his official website in all the search engines (Google, Bing etc.)

For further information on this please read Dan Savage´s account of the story.

We should always do our up-most to keep bigoted fools from positions of power. I am therefore setting up a thing on this blog so you can conveniently click it to keep Santorum in his right place in the search engines. Oh by all means, click as many times as you wish!

Bombs in Tripoli

The unrest in the Arabian countries has spread to Libya. The Libyan dictator since 40 years Muammar Gaddafi's must be getting worried.

His son and "heir" Saif el Islam Gaddafi held a speech yesterday night on Libyan state television. There he claimed that a conspiracy is going on against Libya and threatened that a civil war would break out if the protests against the regime did not stop.

Al-Jazeera now reports that the regime has started bombing protesters in Tripoli, the capital of Libya

River

River
It´s coming on Christmas
They're cutting down trees
They're putting up reindeer
And singing songs of joy and peace
Oh I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
But it don´t snow here
It stays pretty green
I'm going to make a lot of money
Then I'm going to quit this crazy scene
I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
I wish I had a river so long
I would teach my feet to fly
Oh I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
I made my baby cry

He tried hard to help me
You know, he put me at ease
And he loved me so naughty
Made me weak in the knees
Oh I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
I'm so hard to handle
I'm selfish and I'm sad
Now I´ve gone and lost the best baby
That I ever had
Oh I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
I wish I had a river so long
I would teach my feet to fly
Oh I wish I had a river
I made my baby say goodbye

Its coming on Christmas
They're cutting down trees
They're putting up reindeer
And singing songs of joy and peace
I wish I had a river
I could skate away on

Dirty Old Man

The Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi's government yesterday gave its initial approval to a change in the Italian legal system, which could restore the prime minister´s immunity from criminal prosecution.

The new proposal is typical of Berlusconi's way of tailoring laws to benefit himself and comes just days after prosecutors have announced that Berlusconi would stand trial on suspicion of having bought sex from a minor

In response to calls for Berlusconi (74) to resign over new revelations that a teenage belly dancer spent the night at his home he refused to apologize for his fondness for young women and said, ‘I work extremely hard and if every now and then I look at the face of a beautiful girl, then it is better to be passionate about beautiful girls than gay’.

Although we are used to scandals surrounding Berlusconi I cannot help being sickened and totally astounded by the tolerance shown towards this dirty old homophobe by the rest of the leaders of the European Union and the world. Imagine the outcry that would follow if the man was instead making derogatory remarks about ethnicity or religion instead of against women and gays.

Discrimination is discrimination is discrimination and should never be accepted.
