500,000 Pageviews

Today is another landmark day for Bock in SecondLife as the total number of pageviews today passed 500.000 (since Blogger started the count on Juni 1, 2010).

If anyone had told me in the early morning hours of August 25, 2009, when I started this blog, that I would still be here almost five years later I certainly wouldn't have believed them. Anyway here I am, a little bit older and somewhat wiser, and still going at it.

In the beginning my readers were almost all Swedes or Scandinavian, which is natural because I blogged entirely in Swedish back then. After Ars passed away, and my blogging really took off, I slowly and over time switched entirely to English.

Today the blog's statistics tell me that my top ten reader countries are the following:
United States
153304
Sweden
93897
Russia
22480
Germany
17714
United Kingdom
15559
Canada
12463
France
10217
Netherlands
9748
Egypt
5730
Belgium
3197

I know of course that most pageview don't mean that people have actually read anything I have written, but some have and a few of them have come back to read more and sometimes even engaged with me and other readers in the comments.

My gratitude on this day goes to those of you who actually do come back for more, whether it be sporadically or regularly! Although I have often said, and it is true, that I blog mostly for myself and for my need to vent, nonetheless it is rewarding to realize that I am not shouting into emptiness. So thank you all!

Results of My Readers Survey 2014

A week ago I started a survey to elicit some more information about you, my dear readers. I allowed you a week to respond and the results are now in.

Here are the results:
Out of the 33 respondents on the first question, 27 (81%) identified as male, while 6 (18%) identified as females. None (0%) identified as Intersex, Transgender or Other.

Out of the 33 respondents on the second question, 22 (66%) identified as gay, 6 (18%) as straight, 3 (9%) as bisexual, 1 (3%) as asexual and 1 (3%) as other. None (0%) identified as lesbian.

Out of the 29 respondents on the third and final question (which allowed multiple answers), concerning reader involvement, 21 (72%) said they had commented, 6 (20%) said they had linked and 3 (10%) said they had shared, while the remaining 6 (20%) said they had neither commented, linked or shared.

---

Judging from the results of this survey we can conclude that the readers of Bock in SecondLife are an extremely cisgender (your experience of your gender matches the sex you were assigned at birth) crowd consisting of mainly gay men with a fairly high degree of reader involvement.

I thank all those of you who have bothered to take part in this highly unscientific study. Hugs and kisses to you all!

Bock in SecondLife would like to welcome Ebbe to our world!

The Olympic Games, Russia & Putin

I was tipped about this post by John Aravosis on the AMERICAblog by the longtime Bock in SecondLife reader, my dear brother, Dejerrity Mycron.

Despite Dej's present sufferings in an old Manhattan building with a malfunctioning boiler and a worthless managing company in the midst of the coldest winter in New York for ages, my lovely and loving brother takes the time and makes the effort to send me tips. Isn't it clear from that fact alone, that the man is completely loveable?

Oh guys, he is single too at the moment so if you would want to meet this gruff diamond in disguise just drop a notecard on my profile and I may set you up for an introduction.

Send your notecards to The McMillan Matchmaking Agency (a part of the BMcM Corporation), c/o Bock McMillan.

If you pass my scrutiny, I may introduce you! First come, first served!
---

The AMERICAblog; "How Vladimir Putin sent 'Brand Russia'  into the toilet". The post starts like this:
"Russian President Vladimir Putin has done more to harm the image of Russia internationally than anyone in a generation.
Putin’s baby, the 2014 Winter Olympics being held in Sochi, Russia in just under two weeks, was meant to demonstrate to the world that Russia had entered the modern age.
Then a funny thing happened. The world actually paid attention to Russia, and found it to be a third-world cesspool run by a despot.
If Brand Russia had already been bruised by Putin’s reign, in the past 12 months it’s been utterly destroyed."
---

I hope "Little Father" Putin reads it and takes notice, but that may be a vain wish.

Creating A New Blogheader

Urban, trendy, edgy and even sexy, were some of the words being thrown about when I discussed the new header picture for Bock in SecondLife with my boyfriend Tomais - and at the time soon to be husband although we were unaware of that - when he had agreed to help  me.
Header  for Bock in SecondLife,. Photographer Tomais Ashdene.
Although I at one point halfheartedly suggested that I perhaps should be naked while draped over the O, that was vetoed by both Tomais and Guyke. As both of them are well known for their good taste, I did not force my will in the matter.

At my brother Dej's request we added a "Dej was here" on the condom vending machine, which I thought was a nice touch.
Otherwise this shoot was a another backbreaking experience with my Tomais muttering to himself while taking shots and fiddling with lighting and Photoshop, luckily Guyke was there to entertain me through it all.

I am extremely happy with the result and hope that you like it also!

An Impromptu Christmas Dinner

´Twas the day before, the day before, the day before, the day before Christmas (that would be Saturday December 21, 2013, for those who have difficulty with counting) that the picture below was taken.
Butch, Guyke, Tomais, I and Dej at the table in Tom's kitchen.
My men and I had started talking about when we were going to celebrate the holiday together before we each went off to spend some time with our first life families and/or friends, but had not decided on a date yet.

I was hailed by Dej when I logged into my SecondLife earlier than usual on Saturday. My brother was in an exceptionally jolly mood and invited me to come over to hear him play some music on the grand piano he has in his conservatory. I happily accepted the invitation.

After a while of we were joined by the topic of Dej's and my conversation, my lover Tomais.
At first Tom took a seat in the window, demurely listening as Dej and I continued playing duets on the piano, but then Dej  remembered that there was a third pose on the piano so he joined us there.
Tom got bolder as we kept on chatting away on Skype and changed to more daring outfits, cheered on by Dej and me.
Somewhere at this point we were joined by first Guyke and soon afterwards Butch and decided to go somewhere where we could all sit and talk comfortably. We first tried my kitchen table, but as I could not provide sustenance we moved on to Tom's kitchen where the table could provide us with a complete traditional Christmas dinner.
We sat there and talked together for hours and hours, all of us in high spirits and enjoying each others company to the fullest.
When Butch had to leave us to set up his set at Q Lounge, the remaining four of us continued talking away and relaxing in Tom's sitting room, where we were served coffee, before joining Butch at his set.

Some hours later I noticed that Tom was getting a tired, he had been suffering from a bad cold for a few days and had had problems sleeping properly due to congestion. I decided to send Tom to bed and tucked him in properly.
It would not be an exaggeration to say that this had been a magical and wonderful day, one of the top five marvelous days in my entire SecondLife existence.

Oh, I almost forgot, we actually also had sort of a Christmas miracle. Dej and Guyke, who in the past have had some difficulty getting along, didn't even bicker at each other once. The two have instead since then joined forces to instruct Tom and me on how to go about things, sticking their noses into matters that are none of their concerns. The only reason I accept and forgive them for this is that they are family and that is what families do - as I know well having done so on more than one occasion when it comes to both their lives.

Bock in SecondLife and I, it's editor in chief,
wishes all of you and your families in first and SecondLife
an equally wonderful and magical Christmas holiday
and we hope to see you all safely back with us soon!

Celebrating Four Years of Blogging

"Bock in SecondLife" celebrates it's fourth blogoversary today!

Little did I know when I started my online presence back in 2009 that I would still be at it this long afterwards. After publishing the first post I actually didn't post again until 4,5 months later, but ever since then I have been posting regularly - even if it was somewhat half heartedly at the beginning. It took the passing of my beloved Ars and my need to relieve my anguish to get me committed to blogging and by-and-by it became a habit that I miss when I am not able to do it.

Before moving on to the singing, cheering and toasting with champagne in crystal glasses lets summarize the blogs existence with a few numbers.

2,237 posts
5,618 comments
396,007 pageviews
97 followers (of whom 3 prefer to be hidden)

Now all please rise and join me in singing to "Bock in SecondLife"

Happy blogoversary to you,
happy blogoversary to you,
happy blogoversary to you Bock in SecondLife,
happy blogoversary to you!

May you have many more,

may you have many more,
may you have many moooooooooooorrreeeee,
may you have many more!

Three cheers to "Bock in SecondLife"! Hip, hip!
Hooray! Hooray! Hooraaaaaaaay!

Poll Results: Most Overused Word

The results of the poll are in and are clear as you can see.

The real thriller was for a while if "Lag" or "Drama" would win, but in the final hours "Drama" pulled away and won with a mere three votes.

So I am happy to announce that "Drama" is the most overused word in SecondLife according to the readers of Bock in SecondLife.

Lets make a deal and promise each other to use the ugly word less in the future!

Update On Commenting

I have previously told you that anonymous commenting would no longer be allowed on this blog, see Bock In SecondLife: On Anonymous Commenting.

The reason for that decision was mainly my refusal to use the word verification process on my own blog as it at the time gave me huge problems on other blogs that had activated that option, see Bock In SecondLife: On Word Verification.

As I have since noticed that Blogger has stopped using the blurry pictures of street numbers and also seem to have made other helpful changes in their word verification process, I reconsidered my decision and changed the commenting options so that anonymous commenting was again allowed but now with word verification activated.

My friend and co.blogger Christo Spyker reminded me the other day that I had neglected to inform you about the policy changes I had implemented.

You may hereby consider yourself informed that Bock in SecondLife now
  1. allows anonymous comments again, and that
  2. word verification is activated.

Midsummer's Eve

Today is the day of the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere. The solstice marks the peak of summer and takes place when the sun is at its highest point in the sky. After today, the days get shorter until the winter solstice on December 21 when they start to get longer again.

The day is also called Midsummer's eve and is in Sweden, together with Christmas, the traditionally most celebrated holiday of the year. Midsummer is however without a doubt the most loved of the two. Contrary to Christmas there is no pressures or obligations of consorting with relatives, cooking huge festive meals or buying gifts.

On midsummer you hang out with friends and people you like. No gifts are involved and meals can be extremely simple to prepare but still delicious. Besides the weather is warm, daylight lasts around the clock - almost - and it never gets really dark though.
For meals you can get by with boiling small, new potatoes (preferably just washing them lightly in water first to get the dirt off but without peeling them) with some dill, boiling a couple of eggs, opening one or more cans or jars of pickled herring, pouring up some sour cream and cutting some chive. Nothing more is needed except possibly beer or aquavit for snaps. For dessert you simply use fresh strawberries with some cream and a little sugar (if you must). It's absolutely delicious!

If you wish, you can go out go into the bright summer night and pick seven different kinds of flowers and tuck them under your pillow, so that maybe - if you're lucky - you may dream of your future husband or wife.

Happy Midsummer, dear friends and readers of Bock in SecondLife!

Retraction

On Saturday, there was a post on Bock in SecondLife entitled “At the Gay Nation Set” where we incorrectly stated that Mr. Butch Diavolo, the well-known SecondLife DJ and an extremely handsome, humorous and charming male avatar to boot, congregated at the venue with a multitude of ex-lovers.

Although our reporter at the time, through the documentation supplied to him, may have believed this to be true a closer examination of the documentation provided has shown that these allegations are entirely false. As far as we know today (through a source very close to Mr. Diavolo) only three (3) ex-lovers can be confirmed.

In this situation it is my duty and obligation as editor in chief of Bock in SecondLife to offer our sincerest apologies to Mr. Diavolo for publishing the false information. We are truly sorry for any pain or other inconvenience the publication may have caused Mr. Diavolo or his reputation as an honest and upstanding male avatar.

The story leaked to our reporter was obviously from a lesser man and motivated by jealousy over Mr. Diavolo’s prowess as a lover and/or success as a DJ. If it were possible I would fire the reporter, but he is the only one we have and he also happens to be myself.

We are sure that our readers and stockholders, who have always supported us, will understand that this was an honest mistake and stick by us now and look forward to a bright future together with them.

Relaxing

I was lazy today, so I stayed at home and sat in my meadow for a while listening to the birds chirping and chatting with Butch, Guyke and Dej.

They were all doing well. Butch was busy with getting a new DJ-program to replace his unreliable SAM. Guyke was brooding over the intricacies of sailing in SecondLife and Dej, who had had a fun night with little sleep, was even more tired than I and for better reasons.

Congratulations "Ziggy On The Edge...."

Today my mentor Eddi "Eagle Eye" Haskell noticed that my buddy Ziggy Starsmith's blog "Ziggy On The Edge..." had passed 100,000 pageviews since November 2009. (The counter is at 101,567  pageviews at the moment so the event happened 2-4 days ago)

Bock in SecondLife wishes to congratulate Ziggy on this achievement and hope that we will be able to follow Ziggy´s unique view of SecondLife and the world at large for a long time to come!

When You Really Loved Someone

(tipped by Bock in SecondLife reader +Joe Jervis @ J.M.G.

This one goes right to my heart, and I am not usually a big fan of Ms. Agnetha Fältskog. And no, it was only a bit of wishful thinking on my part, Joe didn't exactly tip me, he just posted it on his blog!
