Although I already know that Second Pride's claim to this being the organization's 10th anniversary is challenged by some, I choose to accept it. (Nota bene, in my response to a comment by my dear friend Garth Raleigh, I - after having reviewed what  Second Pride actually says - correct myself as to the organization claiming anything of the sort.)

In my mind Second Pride - and any other LGBT organization on the grid, that can show any connection between their existing organization and the ad hoc committees celebrating Pride in the early days of SecondLife, can make the same claim.

Tomais Exhibits at The Nilsart Gallery

The talented photographer Tomais Ashdene (whom I am happy to refer to as my hubby) will have an exhibition at The Nilsart Gallery, owned and operated by Nils Ophelia and cyberserenity Vella.

The exhibition opens on Saturday January 10, 2015, and continues until March 31, 2015. The opening of the exhibition will be on Saturday 1 PM - 3 PM.

Musical entertainment at the opening will be provided by the charming DJ Helene Dragoone. Light refreshments and champagne will be served.

Sometimes you find a artist that you just want to show to the world. Tomais Ashdene is such an artist. In his work I find more than just pictures of the Second life world. There are stories. What happened before or what happens after. It is not just the perfection in the technical work but the way he makes the image continue to explore his virtual life and the world around him. There are many good photographers in Second life but very few that make the pictures relevant even beyond the virtual self.

I couldn't have said it better myself if I had been asked, which of course most likely is the reason why I choose to quote Ms. Lorentzon.

The exhibition is called "Miscellanea".

Hinterland Seven

Hinterland is celebrating the seventh anniversary of it's creation on Saturday, May 31, 2014, from 2 AM SLT.

The kind, wonderful, hot, sexy and amazing lairds of Hinterland invite us all to join them in the celebration. There will be a Deep Forest theme and loads of fun and prizes to give away.

The Pressure, The Pressure...

I am indeed a fortunate man to have loved and been loved by two amazing, wonderful and talented men like my Ars and my Tomais.

With Ars it meant that I got involved in the SecondLife music & club scene, I don't think there was a single club in existence those days that I did not visit at least once, either for Ars sets or because one of the Sarco Sound DJ's were playing there. I must have been acquainted with most of the DJ's and club owners in those days too. Usually I was seen as a mere attachment to the SLebrity DJ, although I did my best to assist Ars during his sets in any way I could.

A new hubby, means new requirements! Tomais, as most of you know I'm sure, is a SLebrity photographer. His whole family - and it is large - consists of accomplished photographers or photo models, which makes completely different demands on my looks and demeanor. I must at all times look chic, dashing and lovely and also be able to bend into almost any pose that the photographer may requires for a particular shot.

I have therefore been forced be careful with what I eat and drink, never more than fifteen green peas a day and two glasses of champagne. I also follow a strict training routine to become as fit, slim and bendable as modelling for a master photographer demands. (See pictures)

Strangely enough I love it, because it is fun working with this mumbling and distracted man who is completely absorbed with angles, how the light falls and which of the 20.000+ Windlight settings (he has to go through them all for every picture) he is going to use. The reward comes after the photo shoot - and sometimes during - when we are both relaxed and goofing around.

DJ Butch's Final Set - For Now...

Yesterday my sweet friend Butch Diavolo informed all of us that he, for personal reasons, had decided to go on an indefinite hiatus from SecondLife.

Butch's s final set before the break was at Q Lounge yesterday and many of his fans and friends came there to thank him and to say "au revoir", all of us adamantly refusing to say goodbye to a beloved friend and DJ.

I have always found it extremely difficult to say farewell to someone who has meant much to me, someone who is close and that I care deeply about. Especially in SecondLife, where "taking a break" often enough seems to lead to quitting the virtual world altogether.

Of course I do not question Butch's decision. He is the only one fit to make it and I am sure that he has thought it through before coming to this conclusion, but I will miss him. Butch has always been extremely helpful, kind, caring, loving towards me, although I have gotten my fair share of his ever flowing sarcastic humor.

For now I am content with the reassurance that Butch is doing what he believes he must do and his promise to me that he will in fact attend The Elopement Party that I and Tomais are throwing on March 8th.

Rant on Linguistic Science

My dear friend Butch (yeah, the brilliant, sublime, humble etc., etc.) and I are involved in a linguistic dispute over the pronunciation of the nickname "Arcy", which is what Arcangelo Hellman (among other things a renowned trance music DJ) prefers to call himself these days. 

Butch emphatically claims that the nickname should be pronounced with a hard c ([k] as in car), i.e. Ar[k]y, because "it is short for Ar[k]angelo". I - with equal stubbornness - support the claim that the c before a y must be pronounced as a soft c (/s/ as in cent), i.e. Ar/s/y.

Today I decided to settle the dispute once and for all, by looking for evidence to support my claim which I could slam on his thick skull. In the first lines of Wikipedia's article on "Hard and soft c" I found gratifying support for my claim:

"In the Latin-based orthographies of many European languages (including English), a distinction between hard and soft ⟨c⟩ occurs in which ⟨c⟩ represents two distinct phonemes. The sound of a hard ⟨c⟩ (which often precedes the non-front vowels ⟨a⟩, ⟨o⟩ and ⟨u⟩) is that of the voiceless velar stop, [k] (as in car) while the sound of a soft ⟨c⟩ (typically before ⟨e⟩, ⟨i⟩ and ⟨y⟩), depending on language, may be a fricative or affricate. In English, the sound of soft ⟨c⟩ is /s/ (as in cent).

Well, I wish I had stopped reading there, but as an attorney I know that there is rarely a rule without an exception, and sometimes even exceptions to the exceptions and more often than not exceptions to the exceptions of the exception of the rule, ad infinitum. That applies especially when it comes to the human sciences, of which linguistics is one. The modern approach among scholars in these fields seems mostly intent on recording and explaining the usage instead of informing the knowledge seeking general public of what is right and what is wrong.

Instead of laying down the law, there is a widespread sloppy tolerance for wrong usage if enough people start using it. This annoying policy of permissiveness and "laissez faire" irks me, because I would prefer if they would just condemn certain usages as totally wrong and never to be used by any reasonable man ever again. Actually I have , in both spoken Swedish and English, encountered the pronunciation [k]an[k]er for the deadly disease cancer (which most commonly is pronounced [k]an/s/er), I have even seen it spelled as "kanker" in both languages. It almost killed me - both times, I should think the scholars will allow it soon enough, if they haven't done so already.

This rant has now lead me to the conclusion that I am going to ask Arcangelo Hellman how he wishes his nickname to be pronounced and act in accordance with that wish.

The Re-Opening of Whim

During one of our talks last week I mentioned to my son, that he and I had known and loved too many DJ's in SecondLife. The statement is of course true, I would never lie to you all about something so important as love. I am, however, not quite sure what I meant with the comment, because I would not wish not having known and been given the opportunity of loving any of them.

Anyway, last night one of the DJ's my son and I know and love, the incredible, brilliant, sublime and - not to forget - humble Butch Diavolo invited us to the re-opening of his Club Whim, which for no particular reason, other than a whim of the genius himself, was shut down before the summer.

Butch wishes us to think of this as a new club "The Whim - Part Deux", but to me it's still the old Whim in a more dilapidated condition. (Dilapidation is actually more difficult to get right than making something look fresh and new, as the genius will willingly tell you.)

Guyke, I and the rest of the patrons were treated to one of Butch's best sets of trance music in SecondLife yet. I was almost knocked speechless, which is no easy feat.

After you have arrived at the Welcome area please take a few moments to rez. There is ample seating provided for your convenience. Once you have rezzed, walk across the water in front of you on the bridge that has been provided and then turn right and walk up the hill to the house, which is located in the southeast corner of the sim.

WHO: Family and friends and friends of friends. The more the merrier!

1. Music will be provided by DJ sirch ((12 PM - 2 PM)) and by DJ Jared (2 PM - 4 PM)
2. Summer leisure wear is recommended and don't forget to bring your swimsuits as I have a pool here. (I am expecting to see a lot of skin!)

Celebrating Independence Day

My day in SecondLife started out with a visit from Guyke and Dej.

Dej had a first life friend staying over for the weekend and watching on his screen. I wanted to show off the new place before the two took a nap to prepare for the evenings delights. 

When Dej and his friend had logged off, Guyke and I decided to try to find a party. Luckily we did not have to wait long before I saw an invitation to the Mine Shaft Club. I had never been there before so we were not sure what to expect.

We ended up having a great time with the friendly and hairy leather men. Guyke only needed two (2) changes of outfits before he felt comfortable there. I am not as fussy as my sweet son, so I only needed one.

DJ Regi @ Second Pride

I have known Regi Yifu since the very early days. We are both seasoned veterans who have been around the block a few times. In the old days Regi mostly used his creativity to build, create and design the most amazing accessories, clothes and interesting, funny or useful contraptions.

A couple of years ago Regi started DJ-ing with great success and also began organizing with his now immensely famous (at least in gay SecondLife) "Splash parties" (pool parties).

The Pool Party With DJ Tor

This evening I listened to DJ Tor Rhiannyr for the first time,. It was an extremely pleasant experience. Of course the fact that the two of us were surrounded  by hordes of near naked, gorgeous, fabulous, hunky and breathtakingly beautiful men can have influenced me, but I do not usually let such trivialities cloud my judgement.

Both Guyke and Butch had deserted me by now, leaving me to try and cope with the extremely invigorating circumstances., Guyke to meet up with Ziggy for some hanky panky while Butch had wandered off on some mysterious important mission.
